Even with that fantastic MPG this morning, my average for the tank is only 50 mpg. The rest of the tank was more fun

Strange you should say that about Tesco fuel. I filled up with them for the 1st time in ages the other month.
The Esso tank before I got 65.2mpg - 12 July
Tesco tank 59.5mpg - 23 July (my 1st tank below 60mpg since May)
The tank after was BP Ultimate and got 67mpg

In fairness you have a petrol rather than a diesel, so you don't have to be too hard on yourself.

I actually can't complain about my MPG as I am averaging a good 8l/100km so it's not bad considering I drive mostly in the city.

Actually we have a 1.4 Fabia and we get the same MPG so should be happy

35.5 mpg you have got a heavy foot.

The 1.4 in the Fabia is an old school engine, but less than 35 mpg in that too means your other half has a heavy foot too!!

Part of the problem is the stop starting in the heavy morning traffic and maintaining traffic speed in that stop start traffic - I am talking about Poland here! If I am careful I have no problem doing a respectable 6.5 - 7.0l/100km but in stop start traffic in Poland that's difficult. On the whole I am happy

But year my better half has a heavy foot in the Fabia!

Filled up last night and cost me 56 quid, could have squeezed few more pence in though I think!

That was at 117.9 per litre, should last me just over 2weeks. Have a 34 round trip every day to work. Last tank full got nearly 530 mile with a light right foot!

Had a 26 mile drive today along main roads and through towns and the Civic did a most agreeable 52mpg!

And I wasn't really driving for economy either!

For the last 3 weeks, I've been "stuck" on 30 mpg ... that's driving through town and to \ from work (short journeys, where I seem to spend as much time 'parked' as I do moving) ...

That's the worst I've ever had (and I never try to drive economically) ... in fact, I got around 35 mpg this Summer, while in the UK earlier this year and "playing on the Motorways !" ...

So, I'm not complaining at all ... despite my "worst endeavours", I think it's pretty good for a 1.8 petrol engine ...

p.s. - 30 mpg is 9.4 litres per 100 km - but we'll see if the first service (next week) makes a difference ...

Last edited by J. Derek Riddell; 6th November 2008 at 12:53. Reason: the "p.s." ... and lousy spelling ! ...
