Smile MPG - Well pleased

Just filled the spaceship up this morning, I put in 43 litres, so still had 7 litres left in the tank. My mileage was 454 miles! Not bad fuel economy, my 2005 would need a fill-up around the 380 mile mark and it had the same size tank.

The computer had me laugh though, with 7 litres left in the tank it reckoned I could only do another 12 miles! At least you'd never run dry with that pessimistic computer!

The trip computer for the last tank was reading an average of 47.8mpg, not sure how accurate that is though as I can't be bothered to work it out!

Needless to say I'm very pleased with the fuel economy considering the car has only done 1160 miles, so it'll probably improve still further.

Wheelie the actual mpg based on the figures provided is 47.99777427 which makes your trip computer astonishingly acurate.

I have to admit, when I had a 1.4 loan car, I was plesantly surprised by the economy, as I was by the 1.8 I had during my previous service.

Previous petrols I have owned (Vauxhall Astra 1.8 & Renault Grand Scenic 1.6) no matter how I drove I couldn't get better than mid 30's economy.

If it wasn't for the mileage I do and the towing, I would consider a 1.8.

My 1.8 EX has averaged 42.6 over the 8000 miles since new and im very happy with that. Had 47.9 over a 200+ mile trip and 46.8 on a 800+ mile round trip to Jockland.

It funny about the range predition though, 12 miles from 7 litres!

Shame its not more accurate, like my mpg reading.

Range 0 is with 5 litres left to stop the AA getting too busy

12 miles 2 litres is reasonable.

Is that via the Trip Comp or via calculation ?

The reason I ask is that my average MPG is circa 44+ according to the Trip Comp but slightly lower at 40 according to my trusty spreadsheet.

Still a lot better than the 28 of the IS200 though

Mine also does this, however this weekend i drove a long trip with another car and a motorcycle, we all followed the same route. The other car and motorbike had 160 km for that trip, whilst my precious spaceship said i only did 150 km....
So maybe it needs abit more adjusting because now the car is saying i do less miles tot the tank then it really is.

so when you come to sell it you could get more money as it states its done less miles than the actual - hold on isn't that illegal

In September 2006 when I got my pride and joy, first car, drove like an idiot, bought Tesco unleaded - I got 31mpg at my worst.

I'm now cruising about and using V-Power, anything between 38mpg and 42mpg is now normal.

To be honest there are still time when I horse it, but I pick and choose when it's appropriate and seem to get much more out my tank.

After 250 miles I managed to get 39 litres in the tank. This is certainly an improvement over when I first bought it. (mileage now 2,800). The computer reports 31mpg instead of the original 29mpg.
