Oil light! Poo'ed my pants.
OMG, whilst on my first proper long distance adventure with the civic today the oil light came on! When I managed to stop at the first service station, I found that the oil was well below the minimum. Is this normal for a 2.2 after 2500 miles? I stuck in a bit of the old brown stuff and everyone was happy. Anyone else experienced the same?

Hi Brian. I was in Forfar today. I'll keep an eye out for you. I think there are 2 Vivid blue Civics in Forfar but mine is the one with the storms. I believe the other one lives up on Westfield Loan but it only has the 16s.
You'll easy know mine, it has the bull on the back! |

Mines a black EX will definately keep my eyes peeled for yours (hard to miss). Now you mention it I do recall seeing a blue one (could have been 2 different ones) but haven't seen it in a while. Did you buy any bridies when you were ther today? Get yourself on the frapper map a growing community of civics in Scotland.

Common mistake people do
New car tends to use more oil untill all stuff seats properly. This is why you should check oil level quite often, especially on brand new car! |

If it was well below the minimum, get it checked. |

I must hold up my hand and say that I have never checked it. It was one of those things I was going to do "tomorrow".
It took a pint or so so I'll keep my eye on it. I don't rev it at all quite the opposite. |

I have topped mine up at 5400. Not really desperate, but the level was nearing the bottom mark. I had some advice wth my last car, "new cars are like new babies and drink a lot". I think they were trying to get a blonde to check her oil more frequntly - it worked!

I think the nice fleet manager was just a little tired of girlies not checking the oil, he said that the by the time the light came on it was generally to late to bother. |

Back to the oil......... mine used around 1 litre in the first 5000 or so miles, since then it hasn't needed any, keep checking though, still just under top mark, after nearly 12000, service soon, yeah!

'Check oil lamp' went on about 4500 km, oil was near minimum. Was just in the dealership's neighbourhood so i dropped by, guys at the service said it was completely normal, filled it with the oil there and went away happy

Smoke me a kipper
Mine came on at about 6000 miles. Think I mentioned somewhere else on the forum that on collection the dealer was emphatic that I checked the oil regularly - seems to me it may be a true 'oil burner'.
Has anyone experienced this a second time - possibly after their first service? I have a SEAT diesel and that is driven hard but apart from the time the mechanic didnt put enough oil in - it never flashed between services (10,000miles). Even when the oil wasn't topped up properly - I managed more than 6,000 miles! |
