Oil Change
The dealer has sent me a letter stating that it is advisable to have an oil change and new filter for my Civic after the first 1000 miles.
However it states in the manual under "Breaking-period" (page 290) that the oil and filter should not be changed , I am a little confused. We are going on holiday tomorrow and will excede the 1000 mile mark. Any advice please. Alan |

Firstly, welcome!
You'll be fine without the initial oil change. This really sounds like the dealer cashing in - the manual says no need, noone else here has had that letter, and you have a good warranty. I reckon go on holiday and don't worry about it one bit. |

The manual also refers to adverse driving conditions ( ie short journeys )
In which case The first oil change period should not be untill at least 6250 miles |

I have spoke to my technicians this morning.
There is no need or benefit from having the oil & filter changed early. Just wait till your 1st service. Some dealers really piss me off and just get the motor trade a bad name. |

My dealer Breast Drunk, told me to come get an oil change at 10000 km. Manual says first service at 20k, 10k if you're driving in bad conditions. Dont know yet what to do

Slightly, off subject anyone know what Oil is shipped with the car, I'd like to top it up with the same stuff, the leaflet that came with the owner's manual specs a different castrol oil than what castrol recommends on their web site (I've got a 1.8 petrol not the diesel)

VTECs of old like clean oil (hence the 6000 mile oil change interval), not sure about the diesel heard reports it can be a bit of an oil burner
The lube manufacturers seem to have gone all specialised with formulations for specific manufacturers that don't work well with others even with the same multigrade and viscosity values (c.f. castrol site regarding ford engines). End of the day, the oil tank is 3.4L even at £10 a litre its cheaper to fill up than the petrol tank and you don't have to do it every 500 or so miles |

So forgive me for being ignorant but which Castrol should I get to top up with? I looked at the pages in the manual and it's still not clear to me. I have the 2.2 Diesel.
Thanks |
