tuning the 2.2 i-ctdi

my question is it possible to tune this engine to give 200 hp or it would need to change some parts of the engine and intercooler also ?
with the celtic remap i see that they are achieving 185 hp and what about the top speed anyone know before and after ?

best regards .....

Owing to the fact that wind resistance rises disproportionately quickly with speed, the top speed will not rise much. For a collection of theoretical performance figures, look here:

Theoretical performance figures

I strongly suspect that the tiny intercooler is going to be the limiting factor here. And the bore is that there is no space to make it bigger, without a huge amount of work to entirely reposition the whole thing at the front of the car. Injectors are normally the other limit, not sure if they are a factor with the Civ.

Other cruder diesels easily manage 100 bhp/litre (with their larger intercoolers) so I imagine the same would easily be possible if you could be bothered to hack the thing up and move it.

I don't think it would be worth the hassle, if you want that much power go for the type-r

225 PS from Civic diesel

I read on one polish forum that there is a slovakian Civic that was modified by polish tuner and now has 225 PS. When I get home later today I will post some pictures of diagrams and link to that forum (only in polish ). What I remeber is that IC had to be replaced because intake air temperature was reaching 120 C degrees.

i maked a test drive in a i-ctdi and i felt the engine very smooth but the power itīs not even close of what i feel in my type-r, but chipped maybe itīs different .

Yeah i wasn't having a go or anything! I'm curious too, but just seems like a costly and complicated option.

I would not be in a hurry to up the power of the diesel, with a few instances of main bearings breaking up.

An interesting comment. Are you connected with Honda or a dealer? Just wondering how you know about main bearings breaking up.

Thanks!

I think it was in Civinfo.
The number affected was very few, but it's torque that loads up main bearings and I would not recommend increasing it.

Only mention of main bearings here on Civinfo, after a search, is within our short exchange. Sure you didn't read about bearing failure in Worriers' Weekly'?

Top Gun,
It don't worry me a bit, I drive a petrol 1.8.
Now you question me, I think it may have been in Auto Express about a few engine failures; Accord and Civic.
Regards
Tony

Ive been told by a tuning company near me that 195 is the max with no mods , the owners done it to his civic as says after testing the pressures etc sees no real danger to anywere turbo drivetrain etc was good 6 mouths ago it was tuned ok last time i spoke to him, we just to keep a eye on pottsy and others thats remaped there civic to see if any problems crop up , yer ic is tiny compared to other powefull oil burners, if you drive your civic not at 100% all the time should be ok we hope.also crap place for the ic i think in line with all the muck and stones from wheels.
