Talking i-vtec not running?

Since my car has been back from its boot repiar, it feels slower.

Seems strange. May be just used to the awesome speeds that my mazda 2 courtesy car was doing?!?!

It feels as if the v-tec isn't kicking it, it used to feel like the car was being pushed up the hill up to my house, but it hasn't got that feel at the moment.

Engine is running a little warmer too.

Is it just me, or am i just getting used to my lovely car being back after having the most basic mazda 2 you could ever get????

Hire/courtesy cars are the fastest ones on the road.

You can't feel 'vtec kicking in' on 1.8.

It may not 'kick in', but there's a fantastic surge of power as you go past 4000 rpm.

exactly and you feel it when you put your foot down when going up a hill. When the engine is cold, you can feel the vtec isn't there, but when its warm, it feels like there is something pushing you upthe hill.

During the repair, it is possible the ECU was reset by having the battery disconnected. It may be that the car needs a few miles to find its optimum settings again.

i hope so.

Its got its first big run on friday, Isle of Wight up to Cumbria, so that will give it some time to do what it needs to do.
It will be an opportuntity for me to use some premium fuel too

Just wondering, had my handbrake tightened too while it was in for bodywork repair. I take it they know what they are doing (wouldn't have tightened it too much, would they?)

Here we go again.
On 1.8 Civic you *cannot* feel VTEC, like you do on K20, K24, B16, B18, D16, etc...
Why?
Read up: http://paultan.org/archives/2006/03/...i-vtec-engine/ - it's also under 'Usefull links' page.

2smiffy: that 'surge' of power is called torque, as 1.8 engine has most torque just a bit over 4000rpm.

when you around 3000rpm when the car is cold, the car feels like an ordinary 1.8. But when the engine is warm, it pushses the car harder. Like when i go up the hill in the morning (when its cold) and when i go back up the same hill later in the day when the engine is warm.

I do FEEL a difference then.

Yes, because oil gets warmer too, both in engine and gearbox - thus giving less resistance.
And yes, that is significant difference.
