Flashing Glow Plug light and Engine Fault Display
Wife went to go to work today and the glow plug light was just flashing all the time with an engine waring on the display. Checked the manual and it says it a low oil level warning.
Getting worried now I check the level and about 1/4 away above min. (Bit low). top up to max but still getting warning. Now really getting concerned thinking. OMG Expensive Light On. Phone dealer. They give no information just that they need to plug in and find out what the problem is @ £50 per hour. Wife already lost out on days work so she takes it down to the dealer to have a look. While she is gone I start looking about the forums and find other people having / had the same problem and it was buggy firmware in the ECU. Wife phones up to say that the firmware was reading the oil level sensor out of range and firmware update was needed. Exactly what others have had. So she could have gone to work this morning and we could have got the update done @ an convenient time. Now to the Point: I am annoyed. 1. Wife lost out on a days work @ £80 in the back 2. Cost £38 for diagnostic check and firmware update So today I we are £118 out of pocket for what I see is a manufacturing fault. Buggy firmware installed by the manufacturer which they new had this bug for over a year and did not update it on the service and charge us to have it updated (Out of the warranty period now). Has anyone who has had this problem managed to get compensation / bill paid for by Honda? Thanks. |

He Smileyman,
I can imagine how you feel. I have no experience with this, except that I know that the three French car manufacturers and a big Swedish truck manufacturer also charge for updates out of warranty. It's common in automotive world. Those updates are not always needed, only a very small percentage is 'infected'. Maybe the update hasn't been done on your car with normal service because it was not available yet at the moment you came in? Normal maintenance is for most of us only once/year. My reply doesn't really help you, but may help to understand the situation. |

I had this problem and have been to the dealer (Stratstone Harrogate) today. Sorted out with the software upgrade that they did for nothing despite being well out of warranty.
Extremely pleasant surprise as I was bracing myself for four figures worth of wiring loom replacement after reading the horror stories on here. Happy bunny this evening. S |

I have the exact same issue on my 2.2 EX. The glow plug indicator began to flash about a week ago. I will take it to a dealer when I get some time so I hope it is nothing too serious...
I'll post back with the results when I have them... |

Just a follow up from my last post above...
Took my car to Honda. The flashing glow plug light was caused by the oil pressure sensor/software issue. Nothing was actually wrong with the oil sensor but to clear the flashing glow plug icon my car had to be flashed with the latest ECU software. I'm a bit pee'd off though as the charged me £80 to fix something that had not even failed. My car is out of the warranty period now but I would have hoped that Honda would have updated the software during the service if they are aware that issues like this exist. |

This happen to mine Monday. Took it to the dealer Tuesday and it was fixed free of charge. I did ask why it wasn't done on one of the three previous services. He said they don't check for software updates. That's answer my question about whether to take it to a main dealer for it's next service! No!
