Honda Civic Gear Changing query/problem

My friend has the newer shape like the one in the banner above^ Honda Civic Type S 2.2 diesel. Very nice it is too!

Whenever he accelerates i.e from roundabouts/junctions and changes gear the revs increase like 500rpm whilst changing gear, which makes it a very bucking bronco ride! It's fine if you change down or just cruising along. And no he doesn't keep his right foot on the throttle whilst changing gear haha

Any ideas whats going on

Thx

Are you saying that if he de-clutches and takes his foot off the accelerator, the engine revs up?

DBW = drive by wire?

Odd thing is that it only does this when accelerating and changing gear.

You might want to see if you could be allowed to try it for yourself.

I have exactely the same, on a 1.4 i-DSI petrol, but this seems to be normal.
I heard it's done to rev up the flywheel (engine side), and so the clutch doesn't slip that much. Mine revs up to about 2000 rpms.
In the beginning I found this annoying, but you get used to it.
I now seem to lift my foot just a bit quicker from the throtlle when changing gears.
The 2000 rps are chosen because when driving 'average' or 'normal', people ar expect to engage the clutch at that rpm.
I can imagine you don't pay attention to it anymore when you own a Civic for a year or longer. I own mine now 3 months and almost forgot, till I saw this thread.

Hold the revs steady before changing gear, does it do it now ?
Might be because the clutch is disengaged before foot is fully off the throttle.

If that is the only time it does it, it seems very odd.
I'd let a dealer look at it.
