Hello, so been looking at an early stage 1 tuning before i get parts for stage 2/3.

Had a local guy quote for £275 to get it from 138bhp & 340Nm of torque to 185bhp and 400Nm of torque.

I checked Celtic Tuning website and compared figures, would the standard lux clutch handle the extra torque i would be getting? Or safe to turn down the torque to 380-390Nm?

...and how you drive the car/how the car has been driven by previous owners.

Applying lots of throttle from low rpm in a high gear will gradually shred the OEM clutch/DMF, regardless of the year of manufacture.

If the car has a manual gearbox full of gears, then use them! [emoji38]

Give the guys are R2 performance(R2 Automotive - Directions) in tilbury a try, they can fit your clutch, when your ready for a remap I can offer you a elite stage 1, im only based 10 minutes from the kent side of Dartford bridge.
I had run a stage 2 on my stock clutch for 25k miles, I now have the 666kit and it handles the power all day!

Is that the 666 kit from CG Motorsport?

Hi buddy, I got my 2007 2.2 cdti stage 2 mapped in August upto 201bhp and 333ft-lb (451nm) torque. I was told the clutch was replaced just before I brought it and so far I have had no problems what so ever. If your car has previous owners, it may have had the oem replaced with a decent LUK clutch.

Alternatively, H-tune do a great competition clutch upgrade and SMF kit for only £489.99

This is exactly what I will be putting in when mine does end up needing a clutch.

The holy TDI north used to do a kit for £499 but no longer do so as they had problems all the time getting them through customs due to the price they were offering, there was always a back log of orders for this reason (well so they told me).

In my opinion if the H-tune quotes up to 400ft-lbs torque (542nm) then it should be able to handle what I through at it, even once I've upgraded to a hybrid turbo.

As for the difference in price, I only discovered the H-tune kit a few weeks ago, believe it to be quite a knew kit when I brought it to the attention of the forum. For quite a while CGmotorsport was the only option so could charge what ever they fancy.

At the end of the day I love my car, have spent quite a bit on it and plan on spending a lot more. My LUK clutch will die at some point and I feel confident enough to go with the H-tune package. If it does what it says it does it will meet my needs.

I've looked at a remap for mine, I'm assuming you have to tell your insurer about it as it's a modification Or is this one that they wouldn't be able to find out about?

Also, can you map them for better MPG (sorry for old man question!)

Mine is an 07 2.2 with a new clutch fitted about 20k ago

You should notify your insurer though I doubt that they'd check. If you are currently with a mainstream provider then they may not like a remap, specialists like Adrian Flux/etc aren't excessively expensive.

I've had stage 1 and 2 remaps and both gave better mpg IF you drive sensibly most of the time. Naturally if you hoon around all the time then mpg will be worse.

@HamishRowe, did you recently fit an OEM clutch/DMF?

I'm with Admiral, so maybe wait until renewal & go multi car on my other policy, my other car is with a specialist insurer as it's been heavily modified, so no one else will touch it... in 2 minds about touching the civic, it's such a good car out the box and does everything really well, bit more power would be nice though.
