Hi guys, I have a 2006 2.2 I-ctdi with 117k on the clock.
Recently my clutch pedal has been behaving oddly.
The pedal has started to sometimes feel spongy which doesn't usually affect driving. Today however with the spongy feel came a lockout of the gear box. I was unable to select any gear until I pumped the clutch pedal a few times after which it finally allowed me to select a gear again.
Any idea why this might be? And any suggestions as to where I should start to resolve this issue?
I got back to my car and the clutch is completely gone. Stuck to the floor when I press it. Looks like something may have been leaking in the footwell. My left shoe also has a suspicious black stain on it. Clutch reservoir looks ok, but was unable to check the gearbox area for leaks as it's too dark at the moment.
I had the same with my car, often I would find "wet" in the footwell, when I did have the clutch changed I was advised that the clutch slave cylinder was leaking!.
If it's black too it sounds like the fluid has perished.
It's a simple DIY but fiddly to do, I'd look at refurbishing or buying a new master cylinder and a fresh couple of bottles of Honda OEM brake fluid. If you look underneath up past your clutch pedal and look for leaks around the cylinder.
I didn't do it myself, but I believe it's done by adjusting the nut on the rod which connects to the pedal and you move it either in or out to adjust the free play.
