your comments about the system hanging onto the gears - I find it only does this in 1st and 2nd and then only if you have a heavy right foot
Exactly the same as mine!

I just checked out our civic on the Honda on Line check
thingy and it says our civic has some outstanding work to be done
I've had one of those appearing for a month or 2 now and I'm assuming its:

Door bungs
Under body plastic/foam drain covers
Fuel filler spring

I am sure that if VAG hadn't patented the DSG system Honda would already be there
Volvo have just introduced a new, apparently seamless, 2 clutch system for the C30.

That's correct. They did both of those for me at my first service in early August. (Fuel filler cap and top windscreen trim).

I didn't ask them, it was just part of the service so it must be an issue needing correction from Honda.

I have run a succession of Hondas for many, many years, I even owned a Quintet, remember them? In my opinion, Honda UK tends to keep dealers in the dark on many issues and I also accept that this disclosure could be a case of 'Chinese whispers'. I have earmarked Friday of this week for the test drive and shall report my feelings and what, if any, information on the "recall" I manage to glean. Whilst I feel quite confident of driving an i-shift, I have my wife to consider.......
Hi you guys who have been following this thread. I know that you have been waiting, finger nails bitten to the quick, for the update following my test drive today. Well, the good news is that I am no longer doubting the integrity of the new Civic. We, (the Prime Minister and I) took out an 07 5door i-shift 1.8 S/SE (?) with under 4k on the clock. I was assured the vehicle had had all the recalls/modifications etc applicable to that motor. (I did not pursue the matter further). We had the car for over five hours and both drove it, in automatic and then manual mode using the paddles. I could not hear any squeaks, clunks, or other unusual noises. In fact the car appeared to be quite tightly and well put together. Yes, the car did take some getting use to, particularly in automatic mode, but we soon got the hang of things and I must say we were quietly impressed with the product. After several days I am sure one could perfect the art of driving these machines. The only thing we did not try was the ICE. Too much concentration! We thought the i-shift arrangement was ingenious. After returning the car to the dealers we went out for a spin in a 1.8 S GT 3 door manual basically to experience the ride compared with the 1.8 i-shift 5 door. Yes the ride appeared a little firmer, but it was no bone shaker. The 3 door had 18" wheels and sitting in the back I thought road noise was a little intrusive. Whilst driving the car the road noise appeared to subside. Did we do a deal? No, although had the deal been right we would have signed up. Between the 1.8 3 door Type S GT i-shift and the 5 door ES i-shift, we would have probably gone for the 3 door, mainly on looks, but that is a personal preference and our family has long flown the nest. The dealer wanted too many pennies than I was prepared to part with. I have no qualms about buying this car and for the moment will bide my time but a deal will be done at some time in the near future I am sure. Now about the alleged recall on ALL i-shifts in October. I am afraid mixed messages was the order of the day. However, the guy in the Service Dept who was running our test drive 5 door model, thought the recall was only for the pre 07 models which have not had the modification to the ECU. The recall will be done at the dealers. He also stated that Honda UK was working on the emissions of the post modified i-shifts with an aim of improving them. 08 changes resulted in vague looks, shrug of shoulders etc. So there it is folks. Hope I have not disappointed you. I am disappointed a deal was not done today, but tomorrow is another day. By the way, in auto mode, the civic i-shift starts off in 2nd gear. In manual (i-shift) it starts in 1st gear. I didn't know but there we are.

I'm not disapointed in any way shape or form - as I have said in previous posts - we are happy with our Civic. I was more surprised as I had understood Honda were looking into upgrading the pre-07 cars following on from the upgrade made to New 07 models (march 2007 onwards)

Time will tell my mum is going into hospital soon so I will pop the civic into the dealers whilst she doesn't need it for the whatever recall work is due
according to Honda

Glad to hear you enjoyed your testdrive doubtingthomas - I am sure you
will get the right deal soon

Hi Brodick, thank you. There is no rush to clinch a deal as I explained to the dealer (who spent some time trying to bridge 'the gap'). I have found a car that both my wife and I are pleased with. That is progress. I shall keep a very close eye on the market and any special deals that come along but my gut feeling is that early 08, say late January, may provide a better opportunity. I always think you get a better deal towards the end of the month when salesmen are doing their utmost to clinch targets and I will have an 08 model and year. Interestingly, on my current 1.7 Civic Coupe auto, at 70mph the engine will be at 3000rpm spot on. On the new Civic, in 6th gear, at 70mph, the rev counter was about 2800rpm. I thought the new Civic would have been higher geared in 6th. Also the dealer could offer me a champagne silver which I understood was being replaced. It was due in in a few weeks. I didn't mention the new "orange" colour!

I-Shift issues

Just had email confirmation from Honda Customer Services that yes there is a recall/modification for 06 I-Shift cars. Tech people will only commit that 'it will improve the drive'

Thumbs up i shift update

I think the i shift is much beter than the old stye system i had for a demo
1st to second gear change you can feel ... a bit in auto mode if you push it ....but no worse than any other auto box i have had ....the rest of the gears are silky smooth
paddle shifts are awsome......great fun to shift down a cople of cogs on the motorway .....and blast by......

galaxy grey
18inch storms
studio pack
leather and sun roof
concert pack
as i said in march im still v impressed with the system but .....look its not like a traditional auto box ...its better .!. come up to a roundabout and just touch the paddles to put it in your selected gear if you feel its a problem, use the options you have on the car ..i have never had any problems and have over 10,000 miles on the car now .just think ..never having to press the cluth ....i must have saved some shoe leather ......
i think the change is as quick as a normal box and .....unlike auto boxes i use the paddle system to change down gears on the approch to the roundabout or junction.....by the way it is true also that if you leave it in paddle mode and floor it it will still change up automaticly as the red lights blink at you.....]any way i will stop my rant i still like it ..... what more can i say ...

As has been said, it's not a full auto and I need to adapt my driving style to suit.

Being lazy I just want to flop it in "A" and leave all the manual levers alone.

I find the best solution is to accelerate very slowly so when it cuts the power you don't get so much of a lurch, especially in the lower gears.

I look forward to my next change date during March 2010 when they have the i-shift fully sorted

Volvo have just introduced a new, apparently seamless, 2 clutch system for the C30.
The 2 clutch system ( Ford calls it Powershift) will also be available on the new Focus when it arrives in a few months. Could be on my list.

It might be a great 'box - but it'll still be attached to a Focus...

Degs, your trying to wind me up, but I'm not biting . I think its a great car as do many experts in the motoring world. And with a DSG type 'box, it could be right up my street. And on my drive with a bit of luck.

All depends upon how long you intend to keep it Elfa. After all, the Focus isn't really known for its strong residuals...

But I think the changes look good. Bearing in mind it's not an all new vehicle, but rather one that's been radically overhauled inside and out, I think you have all the benefits of an already very good car, without the inherent problems of launching a new model (i.e. most of the changes look to be with the pressings/mouldings for the body panels/interior fittings, so it should be easy for the line workers to adapt).

I did read on the Top Gear site that some models woud have a POWER button. They reckoned it would instantly sharpen throttle response, acting like a rudimentary sport mode.

However, on the Auto Express site it just says it starts the car with two presses, with one to turn it off. So you'd have one over on us there Elfa if you did swap!

I've read that too, but no mentioning about any preventions if the passenger aside is tempted to press that button while cruising. Maybe the car has to come to a full stop before the button's switch-off function is activated? (BTW, the F**us has steered this topic to a bit off-topic...)
