Well i finally got my ??-plate I-shift in friday and i must admit that i am impressed.
I have wait 5 full months to get it so i have plenty of time to read this good thread. Nothing here applies to me anyway. I have done 1000 km in weekend and i love this system. My cousine has VW Passat DSG, and my best friend VW Golf GTI DSG, they both like it, but no testdrives for the first 2500km for them sorry.
And i have spend many hours in their vehicles so its not that bad as i have expected.
I hope all goes to better.
Cheers from Bulgaria.

Good to hear that you like your I-shift. My beauty is wonderful and what I found was that it became smoother at about 2000 miles and at 4500 miles it became even smoother so that is even better news for you. Lots of luck with it and enjoy it.

I've tried to find this info on the site but so far no go.

I reckon that the i-Shift not selecting reverse, unless stationary, could be an accident just waiting to happen.

I believe the manual actually says that you should not select reverse unless stationary.

The other day I was trying to pull out of a side road into a major road that has a bend in it allowing you to see just a 100 yards or so.

My exit seemed to be clear and I started to move forward.

Some idiot came flying down the road that I was trying to enter, he/she well beyond the speed limit - closer to the sound barrier more like!

To accelerate could have caused that plonker to smash into the back of me, so I tried swiftly to select reverse. As you might have guessed Millie just didn't offer me the required cog and I was stuck there with my nose poking out!

The loon swerved and missed me, thank goodness, but without that reverse, in that siuation, I was definately placed in danger!

I think the advice not to pre-select reverse could be that when you next press the brake pedal it could very well select it.

I must admit, it is a bit slow selecting reverse, I've annoyed a few people who must think I don't know where the gears are whilst they wait patiently (or impatiently).

Well i use Reverse quite often.
First day was ... hm, slow. Key is the break pedal.
No more problems. Dont reselect rear ... rebrake quick while allready selected rear and you're ready to go.

Update - try as I may I cannot get her to hesitate b****y marvellous and she now fulfills all her promises.
Thanks Bobby that's what I thought. I had a talk with the Service Manager of my Dealer as I realised that the car doesn't get out of third gear at 2000rpm/30mph which doesn't seem efficient. Apparently this is the result of the upgrade to give better pick-up and may explain the mpg reduction. He also confirmed that despite the 'i' this is not an intelligent system that learns your style and adjusts accordingly - some, certainly up market torque converter types, do. I had also complained about the roundabout hesitation and he said a lot depends on the throttle position - where your foot is so to speak. I have to say that somehow I have adapted because I have not experienced that problem for some time, it seems I have unconsciously learnt the technique, although I also do sometimes dab the brake. A lot depends on the system getting a brake message - ie not going into reverse unless you hit the brake. I have to say that at 1800miles I really enjoy the car and i-shift.

Just had a call from Honda to say the new I -Shift software has been sent to the dealers. So I called the dealer and it had arrived today. Car now booked in for the I Shift upgrade on Monday – will this make a great car even better?

Watch this space.

Should do. Interesting to learn of your opinion after the job is done and getting acclimatised to your new i-shift.

Bigian - you've got the answer from others and having just had the upgrade 17/12/07, I can assure you the difference is immense. I was experiencing hesitation following deceleration but this is a thing of the past. Also worthy of note I have not noticed any real difference in fuel consumption although when driving on 4 economy lights the petrol consumption read out now only hovers around 50mpg whereas prior would go up to 60-70mpg. Still it's only a computer.
Summary - my old girl drives like a dream and I know of no car that would convince me to change her. Good Luck and Happy New Year

Well, the dealer carried out the up grade to the I-Shift today; it was the first time this dealer had carried this modification out. When the technician gave me the keys he said “I think you are going to feel a difference” and I certainly did. It now has an extremely smooth gear change, no lurching or hesitation and I am a very happy Bunny – well done Honda.
Even if the upgrade had not been successful I would not have changed this car, I do a lot of driving through my work and have driving a lot cars since purchasing the Honda even driving some of the big boys, I always take my car home and that is always the best drive of the day and there is nothing out there I would exchange it for in the price range. This up grade is the icing on the cake and I hope everyone waiting for this change is as happy. (Thanks to all above for the reassurance).

I think I am right in saying that the upgrade affects pre March 2007 i-shifts. If in doubt I would contact your dealer in any event.

If you do not qualify for the upgrade, do you have a problem with your i-shift? The vibes tell me you perhaps have.

For those that have had the upgrade, has your road fund tax been increased. My 1.8 ishift registered in Sep 2006 (07model) is in tax band C (£115). Emissions are 149g/km
