I had a SW update last friday. The I-Shift shifts a bit smoother and quicker. But the SW update didn't solve my problem, witch is that when driving in trafic-jam (specialy real slow) the clutch gets hot. To protect itself is doesn't release the clutch at all, until 3000 rpm. Well, you know what than happens.....
The dealer is contacting Honda HQ to see what they are going to do next. Maybe a complete new gear-box. If that doesn't help........ I don't know, I give up.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Nor me - and I've been stuck on the M25 a few times in the past.

If I'm going to be stationary for a while I do flop it into N but when the traffic is stop start, you can't really do that.

As I've said before, the main problem I think is that it has too many gears to chose from.

If it only had 4 gears then it would not try to select the ideal gear at almost every accelerator press.

My gut feeling is that there is something wrong with your Civic. May be it is associated with the gearbox, I don't know, I am not a mechanic, but it should not be behaving the way you describe. Your dealer should be able to sort it. Good luck.

I was always pleased with the i-Shift but that was because I had 'adapted' my driving to suit the car. I can easily live with this.

Well done Honda.
Have been waiting more than a year for upgrade (chasing dealer)and can't wait for improvement on my 06 1.8es i shift. So whats it like going up the hills - mine slows down when I press the loud peddle until it finds itself.Am very pleased that HUK have at least come good!

Changes are slicker and smoother, doesn't appear to be any hesitation. Haven't really tried on hills yet (weather too poor at present to visit the Derbyshire Dales again; but we'll be there when the sun shines!). Holds first longer from a standing start but does seem to change quicker into third from second. Also, I didn't notice any hesitation at round-a-bouts; seemed to select the correct gear immediately I pressed the go peddle.

Overall a very noticeable improvement and I'm pleased with the result.

Hope you get a good result as well.

Hi !
I just had the ECM upgrade today (France)
Honda told me that the ECM upgrade changes the engine code + i-shift code.

The return home travel after upgrade was like I had a new car.
1/ Gear change is smooth and very quick (manual and automatic mode)
2/ The problem repported between 1st and 2nd gear is for the past. It works very well now
3/ I had some clutch slipping on each gear change and specialy on 2nd gear when accelerating after deceleration. Now, I could not find any clutch slipping !

I'm very very satisfied with this upgrade. All works like a charm.
The extras: Because gear change are quicker, acceleration is better and probably need of fuel has decreased due to missing clutch slipping.

Very great thanks to HONDA development for this perfect upgrade.
Automatic mode is now very near a real automatic gear box and the kick down works very great.

I'm very happy this evening

Well, I've had my software upgrade for the i-Shift and Oh my GOD! What a joy to drive. It's like driving a brand new car - I love it.

Gear changes are much faster and a whole lot more smoother. I have been driving my car since new and had my upgrade yesterday and it made me feel like when I first got my car. I'm driving everywhere now, just for an excuse to get in my "new" car.

If you have a chance, GO AND GET IT DONE. You will not regret it.

In some ways (wierdly enough) I'm glad Honda didn't get it correct in the beginning 'cos my excitement has come back...

Yes, you must ! it is a new car after upgrade and I confirm, I'm very excited to drive with the car too !
I also use mutch more the full automatic mode now, it works like a charm and the kickdown is very quick and you are in the lower gear in one quick change ( e.g. from 6 to 3 ).
At full power request, the highest rpm is 6600 before gear change occurs.

Do it, do it, do it, do it .................. Many many thanks to Honda development team .

Just got back from the dealer.

Software upgraded - and yes, difference is noticable.

At accelerating it seems it changes gears a bit later (keeping a bit higher revs).
While cruising, it can still put in 6th gear at 60km/h (1500rpm), so at this field no real change.

However, where is major difference is when trying to accelerate - it almost instantly drops down a gear or two, and power is almost immediately there. Way faster than before, and without hesitation!
Also, gear change does feel a bit faster and smoother.

Overall, it is much more comfortable now to drive in automatic mode, as power is almost instantly there (yes, it still needs to change few gears down).

I'm quite satisfied with change, as auto mode is much more enjoyable to drive now!

PS: Still haven't really tried in manual mode, and if there is also improved gear change speed while flooring it.

Really looking forward to upgrade, and hope my patience is rewarded.Incidently, what do the whizz kids actually do?Is just a messing about with the cars 'brain',or do they also change anything mechanical - just wondered.I've just had thought, HUK might give me a satnav or something nice for my patience - what do you think !!!!

Too technical for me. I understand the upgrade is done via a lap top which somehow upgrades the existing 'software/car's brain'. Ingenious. Perhaps someone with more technical expertise can help.

You could always ask Honda UK or your dealer for a token of gratitude for your patience but I think you will be lucky.......

I've upgraded it at official Honda dealer in Zagreb - Ruting.
You can visit their website also on Honda Ruting // Honda automobili, Honda motocikli, Honda Valvoline Yokohama Cup, where you can find contact numbers too.

Have we found out whether this update is strictly 2006 cars or whether it is a global software update that can be applied to all i-shift models ?
