I don't really understand the problem here. As far as I know, it is OK to "chip" your car or modify it in a way that affects performance and/or emissions, as long as DVLA and your insurance are informed. So why is this any different ?

I-shift upgrade
The i-shift program is being updated and will be able to be inputted using the hds tablet at main dealers. it will basically improve the i-shift response, so say it will be sportier but i belive it to be just an improvement on a poor semi auto shifter...

i shift
Brodick this is true however when the car gos into production knowing that the box has faults and the tecs are working on a solution Even before honda delivers its first i shift then you would think honda would intend to include all its i shift customers in the fix this is not like producing the car and then finding that there customer base would have preferred something like auto dip interior mirror so honda start including it as standard this i would not expect to get retro fitted or at a cost this is as already stated a fix for a known problem on the car no matter which way it is dressed up ie upgrade THIS IS A FIX ?

having driven one or two i-shift's now mihael I have to say that this is not a fix the cars I have driven have been fine - yes there is some room for improvement but nothing wrong in general with the system it sounds to me as if you have other issues - go and speak to your dealer!! |

i-shift
i know a fair bit about honda a specialize in fault code diagnostics for honda (HUM) i hear a fair bit of what goes on in and around the production plant. the i-shift was not all that good so they are developing it to improve response as many customers have complained.

Cannot be done by the dealer and therefore must go back to Swindon!
How do they intend to implement that considering cars are now in dealers waiting for March? Stop Press: Dealer just rang to confirm 3rd March and confirmed that it had already got the upgrade. He seemed to know all about it. Last edited by Kremmen; 21st February 2007 at 14:33. Reason: Stop Press |

i shift
Brodick issues i have with honda are simple having test driven many i shifts since dealers first started to get them in and then waiting until September to get my i shift in the right spec that i wanted and all the time having some doubts about the box as i really wanted a normal auto that as we know is not going to happen with certain reassurances from many honda personal on the box and at times strong assurances that work was ongoing to improve the shift system and it would be available to old i shifts yes i did go for the i shift and yes in general it gos well but after driving it since sep and putting 7000 miles on the clock it still jerks at times and it sometimes seams to take a long time to select the right gear once or twice nearly causing an accident on a roundabout due to lack off power for a split second having spent nearly £21000 i don't expect to have fixes, improvement, upgrades or what ever you like to call them happen to the box six months after getting the car with these issues known only to find out Honda have come up with an improvement and hard luck to any previous customers that bought in good faith

If the supplied car has not had the upgrade but they put the band D tax disc on they who's kidding who ?
I wonder if some dealers do have the required tools to perform the upgrade to the box but will only do it at service time to avoid too many visits? |

I've just been to my dealer to finalise the details of my new Civic for delivery on the 1st March (EX i-Shift) and asked about the new i-Shift software. He knew all about it and referring to the brochure I have, this is my take on the situation.
Some Civics (all EX and Sport and the MANUAL versions of the 1.8 S,SE and ES) have always been Group D. The i-Shift versions of the S, SE and ES are/were in Group C but only just... (149 g/km CO2 emission). If the new software increases the emissions (don't know by how much but I imagine it's not a massive amount), I guess it would just affect the latter from a VED point of view. He also said that any cars that had been due at the dealers before 14/2 were held back for the mod (hence the delays mentioned), any due after that date should arrive as expected. He wasn't sure whether the mod would be available retrospectively on any of the models that would subsequently change VED band. |

I'm very happy the way my i-Shift behaves and if it means I would lose 1 mpg and £25 more in road tax in the upgrade I'll stick with what I've got, cheers!

Dealer called today to confirm car in Swindon - and should be with us for the 1st - not bothered if it is a couple of days late ( infact would rather it was late than a rush job) will be interesting to see how she handles when we get her on the road |

i shift
af1grg when you say redesigning completely i presume the change being offered to new customers at the moment is just a miner software change then, so if what you have been told is right honda will be bringing out a totally revamped i shift box latter ? to make up for the poor auto box they have at the moment

Let's hope I can get used to the i-shift as it currently stands. I have been used to auto's since the 1970's.
And I still think the latest batch of semi-intelligent auto's that apparently 'learn' your driving style are not as good as the old one's that changed at set speeds. At least you learned when it was going to change and semi-compensated. The one thing that will take some getting used to is the lack of a 'P'ark facility to lock the transmission. Currently I stuff it in 'P' and don't bother with the handbrake - could be a tad disasterous if I park on an incline Wish - in 3 years time I can get a 2.2 diesel Civic with a standard auto gearbox - end of wish |
