HI I'm a new member, and was fascinated to read the comments on the
i-shift. I purchased a 1.8 EX i-shift in November, and have been very unhappy with it. If Honda will not retrofit their new modifications to earlier models, we should take some sort of collective action. My car is bordering on dangerous as it pauses when deciding to change gear. Will be very interested if any earlier car gets modified |

please don't take this the wrong way but it does sound to me as if you need to adjust your driving style -you can't really floor it without it jerking or having a small pause |

i shift
Yes agree roger i get what you call the pauses and i test drove a lot of i shifts before ordering mine and i have modified my driving to the car but some times on occasions the box just does not get it right and i to feel puts you in a dangerous position as the box makes its mind up what to do ,have had cars up my bum while i try to get the car to accelerate yes its just a split second thing but still can be unsettling when i got my car i felt it did not perform as well as some of the demo cars i had driven but dealer thought it was just me having not got used to the drive system yet ,but now i hear honda are making changes to the system that they where fully aware needed more development but will not be doing any retrofit on the pretext that the government will not let them this makes me very angry indeed the box should not have been released if honda had not developed it to there and the publics satisfaction and safety

Just for info
I have just checked the DVLA site and my 1.8 i-shift has been registered as 160g/Km with the latest upgrade software, which keeps it in band D at £125. |

I-shift -what is actually changed??
Hi all,
I was at the main office and technical centre of Honda in the Netherlands yesterday and had a nice chat with a technician about i-shift and what the changes are. He told me the adjustment that has been made is a very simple one. Then driving automatic it used to shift at an rpm which made the car as economicly as possible (around 2000rpm) but they felt this was to soon and also comments from drivers made this more clear. The change of gears now takes place at 3000rpm and that's also the reason it's less econmical. Hopefully this provides some people with some answers on what the changes are. Regards, Brummer |

i shift
Hi Kremmen i have the i shift with out the mod am being told the mod makes the change sporty and more smooth do you feel this is right as i assume you test drove the none mod version and was supplied the new version have you noticed anything like a lag if you slow toward a roundabout then accelerate away without stooping (don't mean flooring the pedal just normal pedal pressure ) its as if you press on the pedal and the car can not make up its mind what to do just for a split second or two? I'm hoping the mod has fixed this

Hi
Got to own up here, never went on a test drive The i-shift workings are very similar to the Leyland National bus of the late 70's. It cuts the power briefly, changes the gear, then resumes power. Yes it does take some getting used to but that's half the fun. Mine, once warmed up seems quite smooth but not as smooth as a normal torque converter automatic. The change is smoother the higher the gear. As reported here elsewhere the 'almost stalling' feeling also takes some getting used to. |

I currently drive an Audi A3 tdi DSG (simillar to the ishift) and have ordered an EX ishift. When I test drove it, seemed a bit hesitant at roundabouts and when I was slowing at red lights and not coming to a stop hoping they would change. The sales guy suggested I came off the power a little as it was about to change gear, this seemed to help.
The DSG does exactly the same at roundabouts and at traffic lights if you are about to "apparently" come to a stop but don't, it changes down a gear and you lurch forward, alot of DSG drivers complained of the same thing and various remapping attempts were made but it seems it's a symptom of these intelligent gear boxes - they don't know what your thinking and therefore can't select a gear accordingly. The sales guy had just moved a new ishift from one part of the forecourt to another, which had the new software. He said that it was much smoother and with slightly quicker changes. Every new car takes a bit of getting used to and you have to adapt slightly with every car whether its visibility or seating position - the ishift is another thing to get used to and so far I don't think as a total package I have compromised at all in my car change. |

Hi all,
Just took a little test today: drove an old and new i-shift. It is different. It just rev's up a little more making it shift smoother indeed. If you drive both cars with an hour in between the changes aren't that big but if you jump from one car in the other you will feel the difference. |
