How can he tell it's smoother by just shifting it round the car park?
Under normal acceleration it does shift at around the 2.5K - 3K. If you are just accelerating very gently, as I was yesterday in slow moving traffic then it will change at 2k revs. It seems to sense what is best. |

Hi Kreemmen have you been in traffic jams yet ,dos the car feel smooth while crawling along with the stop start. How dos the car feel if you are slowing down near to a stop but then accelerate away for example from a roundabout do you get any gear lag this has happened on mine it is very disconcerting

It is a bit disconcerting at times. It seems unsure what to do under certain circumstances. Some times lifting off helps whilst at other times accelerating helps.
I'm finding crawling in slow moving traffic OK. Certainly starting from rest is better than my last car which had a very sensitive throttle. The bit that I find the most annoying is reversing into my garage when the engine is hot. Trying to crawl in reverse at a suitable speed seems to make the clutch make & break and as a result the engine revs are continually rising and falling to compensate. |

I have found that if you don't rush the auto it is silky smooth
but if you push it 1,2, & 3 you do get a slight lag ( not that it bothers me) 4,5,6 are far better. So far 1 week on still very very pleased with the car hoping to wash and wax her tommorow and post some pics!!! |

Until today I thought you lot were just wingeing and just needed to get out more but today I tried to overtake a tractor, I pulled out, put my foot down, and....... NOTHING. I watched the oncoming traffic getting closer and closer while I just stayed alongside the tractor. I finally stopped panicking and remembered to flip the down paddle a couple of times but Christ. I have a bit of sympathy with you whiners now.

For ones that tes-drove new I-Shift - is there any difference while in 'manual' mode - as to gear speed change?
Since 1st to 2nd is quite slow (especially if you rev it up). Has anyone noticed any change in speed of gear changes? If it's just upgrade for automatic mode.. won't really bother, since drive 99% of time in 'manual' anyway |

Talked to honda uk about i shift mod being retrofitted to already registered models , the reply was there are no plans to do this as the government will not let them on any of the model range even the sport and ex models which do not change tax banding as there are other issues regarding the mod.So even if you felt you needed the software mod to sort out the gear changes honda say there hands are tied by the government

I started this thread but have been traveling so have only now got up to date. I had a brief drive in a 1.8ES with the NEW i-shift. Changes are certainly smoother - in many cases it is close to a torque converter box. the hesitation which mihael and Roger amongst others have mentioned seemed to have been cured. If you didn't have any other auto box experience my impression was you would be happy with it, I didn't have to adjust my driving style, however it was short trial! The Dealer thought the change involved some mechanicals as well as software he also said Honda have set up a depot to change Dealer's cars - they don't go to Swindon. Hope this helps.

I would only say that only the higher gears slightly resemble a normal autobox.
There is still a definate 'make and break' situation that just takes some getting used to. |

When I took my car in for a service last week I had a chat with the dealer about the changes to the i-shift
I was told it was a software change. the current answer from Honda is that they are restricted by DVLA regulations on changing current non registered cars. This may of course change. The impression I was given is that a letter to Honda would not do any harm. |

I certainly agree. They must be taking protection from the different vehicle tax payable, but there should be something is the regs to cover that ie if a manufacturer declares a change then next time you tax the car the new rate applies*. It must be working all the time - manufacturers apply upgrades, remapping, safety recalls etc. Disappointing as I have previously found Honda a rather 'honest' outfit eg not difficult on warranty matters. Yes letters!!

Sorry the * was because one of the three dealers I have been talking to said Honda would pay the difference of the new higher tax for cars ordered per previous rate and the new rate due to i shift change. I do not recommend even starting to think about this ..just enjoy the drive!

Have to say if I let the car do its thing the changes are a smooth as a babies bottom
smooth but you do not loose any speed during the change. Went for a spin this morning and left a focus for dead at a set of lights ( childish I know but it was fun at the time) the car obviously enjoyed the drive this morning as well what a blast we had God I love this car |

As i previously stated have talked to honda uk they say DVLA will not let them change preregistered cars,. i commented that my ex had not changed a tax bracket so what is the problem with my car having the new software, i was then told there where other issues that stooped them but what these where was not forth coming
