If you accelerate with the box in auto when stationary with the handbrake on, does the car try to move immediately, or does it feel like the clutch has to engage first? My car feels like the clutch is engaged all the time with the handbrake on, as soon as the handbrake is released enough, but not completely, the car will start to move under power without any pause, clunk or rev change. If I do this with the foot brake, the clutch doesn't engage until the brake is completely released, then there is a slight pause, a clunking noise and a slight jolt as the clutch engages. This is on a Dec 2006 registered 07 model |

Guys.. you are somewhat wrong
Firs of all - 'dabbing' brake will *NOT* disengage clutch (only for that short period). For clutch to be completely disengaged you have to keep brake pressed (lightly is enough, just so brake light is on). Same goes for *handbrake*! While car is stationary, and handbrake is on (light on on dashboard), clutch is again disengaged. But, if car is moving faster than approx 8-10km/h, than applying brake/handbrake will *not* disengage clutch. Car has to be stationary. |

In my case.........
When I am reversing into my garage the speed is too great and I need to slow down with the footbrake. When I do, the clutch disengages and I need to dab the throttle very lightly to resume rearward motion otherwise it starts to roll forwards as my garage is on a very slight upward incline. |

Foggy69, Kremmen -what year model is your Civic? Mine is 2007 (although delivered at December 2006). Maybe there's some difference in i-shift firmware?
I for sure know that mine disengages clutch completely when I lift handbrake (I can feel it disengage as soon as handbrake light pops on). Same for creeping forward (or backwards if in reverse) - handbrake needs to be on, or brake pressed, otherwise it engages clutch back on. |

Mines the latest 07 firmware.
As far as I can tell on mine the footbrake does disengage the clutch momentarily but the handbrake doesn't seem to because releasing the handbrake and it creeps. |

Mine will creep forward when I *release* handbrake too. But as long as it's pulled up so much that light goes on, clutch is disengaged (you can feel it).

Of the back of what Endemo wrote i telephoned Honda customer services they confirmed that they are working on new software for the pre upgrade I-Shift models and although there is no fixed date for avalability they are not to far away. Good news for anyone who wants a smoother ride in what i think is a great car already.

The latest software upgrade as far as I know was started mid Feb at Swindon. This had to be done at the factory so I suspect you may be paying too much road fund.
I wonder if the dealer has any diagnostics to identify the software version? |

Current i-shifts are shown as 158g/km and are therefore in Band D which is £140. Your V5 registration certificate should show the correct CO2 emissions. Brian |

or are you american in which case your car was released on the 1st March 2007 ( Higher Co2) Cars prior to 1st March had the old software cars after 1st March have had the upgrade One of the main changes is the way the newer cars use the gears For example the older cars could be in 6th gear by the time they were doing 40mph (more or less) and the newer model only slips into sixth gear when nearing 60mph (more or less) the actual changes are slightly smoother also you need to know your stuff to notice the changes |

Hi all
as far as i am aware the upgrade to the i-shift gearbox was designed to sacrifice mpg slighty to try to obtain a slighty smoother shift. i shift built from early 2007 should all have the new software installed. regards |

The upgraded cars hit the road from 1st March at the '07 plate change infact our car was at the dealers a few days prior to 1st March and had to go back down to Swindon to have the upgrade done |

I have heard people with the old software saying that when they are driving through towns or cities doing around the 40mph mark the system will slip through the gears to 6th gear This doesn't happen with the new software ( this is where the MPG issue comes in) Having driven cars with both versions of software I have to say I am much happier with the newer version although there is still some room for improvement. |

Hi guys,
I hope to take a long test drive later this next week in a 1.8 i-Shift Sport. Whilst speaking to the dealer on the telephone, he mentioned that ALL i-Shifts are to be the subject of a recall next month, October, 2007. It struck me as being a little odd, ie being aware of a forthcoming recall. Anyone else heard the same and if so, the reason why please. Still dithering..... |
