44,000miles and I will be keeping the old parts for inspection. Annoyingly it isn't slipping at the moment but has done repeatedly on three separate occasions in the last 5-6 weeks or so. The clutch is self adjusting which may be happening at the moment - I don't know. I would hope that the flywheel is O.K. but I am changing now to save potential expense later on.

Interested to see what you make of the uprated clutch / flywheel. Is the new flywheel dual mass?

Regards,
Morris Minor

Flywheel is a standard Dual Mass one.

Hello Chip, i also had a problem with my clutch, then i red that you ordered the uprated clutch at CG motorsports, so i did too. let it installed today and the pressureplate and flywheel are the same as what did come of, only the friction plate was specially made for the needs of the car. my clutch got slipping at 92000 miles, so that's not to bad, by me the problem was that some grease, what's between the dualmass-flywheel is, come on to the friction plate causing it to slip.
have to drive slow for the first 500 miles, but i'll keep it up to date who it goes with this clutch.
for me there was also a big price different, because in Holland, only the dualmass-flywheel cost around 1100 pounds, originel at the Honda garage.

Hi there good to hear from you. Was the grease from the flywheel or oil leaking from elsewhere? What is the biting point like now when you pull away from standstill?

Thanks, Chip

the guy who did the jib, said that is was grease from the Flywheel, and you also could turn the flywheel to far to the left and right, so that was finished.
when i pull away, it bites much better, first, a lot of times the engine stolled, but now it drives away like a diesel should do, did only 40 miles today, so when i drive more i'll tell you more about it.

Thankyou Geertje for the reply. Mick at Clutch and Gearbox (CG motorsport) told me to stay away from a solid flywheel as he thought that the gearbox would be the next to fail without the force absorbing dual mass flywheel. At least we can source the flywheels relatively cheaply now!

Just being nosey buy how much are you being charged to fit the clutch and flywheel? In the future i might be tempted to try this myself. £700 odd for clutch and flywheel, i remember paying ~£90 for my (long long gone) fiesta's clutch

My flywheel was also dead and I have replaced this with like for like. the friction and pressure plates still had life in them. you can read my worries on the 'clutch slipping @24,000miles' thread. Either kill the dual-mass flywheel over time or possibly kill the gearbox by using a less sympathetic custom single mass flywheel. Which would be less expensive?

Hi Chip,

I've just been getting this whole slipping clutch issue that seems to be plaguing the 2.2s, seems like the flywheel is the problem more than the clutch. What made you decide to go for another stock dual-mass one and not maybe a solid one instead?

I've had mine show slip under load in 5th & 6th, but is generally fine at the moment. So anticipating a full on failure in the not too distant future, I'm trying to work out what's the best way to go. Hence why I'm curious about you going for a performance clutch but sticking to a standard flywheel.

Cheers.

1.I ordered the new stuff in before taking the old stuff out to examine.
2.I was worried about killing the gearbox if I fitted a single mass flywheel.
3.The DMF from Clutch and Gearbox was £321.89 all in, whereas a custom single mass flywheel from Helix autosport would need development which would equal BIG money to be the first to have it done!

I still have the old and dead DMF that was taken out for anyone who is interested.

I am in two minds about whether I have done the right thing regarding the clutch upgrade. I am still thinking about further engine mods in the future (intercooler) but the judder in 1st gear is a bit grim, so unless you are doing serious tuning I wouldn't bother with the uprated clutch.
