mpg in 2.2 diesel from new.
I am just coming to the end of my first tank of fuel since buying the car and have averaged 38.5mpg and looking like going to be around 430-450 miles. It has all been in traffic driving.
I was hoping for a bit higher than this or is this normal for the running in period? |

I am running at about 35mpg at the mo - so far on 800 miles. My next door neighbour is a diesel engineer & reckons after 10k I should start hitting the big numbers. Gonna be a wait...

From my post elsewhere in the Forum...
Quote:
This is based on a 35 mile commute to work, 20-25 of which is on A roads going between 40-60mph, with the rest on B roads and crawling about through town. Total journey time is ~1 hour * 10 times a week. Following tanks of fuel: Tank 6: 41mpg (was snow that week - much slower driving) Tank 7: 43mpg Tank 8 so far: 44mpg I'm not the slowest driver in the world, but I do try to drive economically where I can. 44mpg is a huge step up from the 22mpg in my last car. |

The car was chipped after tank number 8.
We do plenty of decent distance A road driving, which indicates around 49-51 mpg, but then when I commute in it (motorway mostly) it goes down to 43 or so (both indicated on the computer). A good thrash sees about 37. Hence the average of about 45. |

Wow Pottsy - can't beat the bar chart representation. Very impressive.
Just adding my bit as I haven't posted anything recently: I have a lovely NHB 1.8 ES and being based both in Leciestershire and London, I am mostly up and down the M1 averaging 40mpg. Any doodling around London (desperately avoiding the Congestion Charge Zone) it only goes up slightly up to 41mpg. Keep up the good work Pottsy! |

Average (from tank to tank, not trip computer) over 7000 miles is 50.21mpg, but this is still based on the car's mileage recorder.
Best tank to tank average 64.15mpg, worst 43.40mpg In general was higher over 1st 2000 miles, lower since (winter?) |

I get between 53 and 60 per tank. Motorway driving with a bit of twisty back road. The lower figure is if my wife has been driving the car, The higher figure is when all the time is spent in traffic at 60 mph.

Hi
I got my civic 2.2 ES two weeks ago and got 420 miles to the first tank which is about 40MPG. Looking at the figures you have all posted here they all seem to be in the 40 - 45 range which is 10 MPG lower than the claimed combined MPG from Honda (55MPG). Does any one else think that this is just an advertising rip off from Honda. |

Well, that's a good figure for a new car I guess. It will improve as things "loosen up a bit"...
I'm getting between 28-37 mpg depending on how hard/where I drive it, it goes up nicely on the motorway (think I had high 40's, nearly cracked 50) but that was puthering along at 70 or so.... Better than the Accord 2.4 I had beforehand (but NOT as fast... nooo way) for me, the real test will be when I travel to and from London area in a couple of weeks.... |

My constant eagerness to get where I'm going gives me between 380 - 420 miles to a tank. Currently on 22.5k miles.

I'm sorry but I completly miss the conversion from l/Km to mpg. my convert figures are 42 mpg at the moment (7,5 l/100 km)
Miles is about 1.6 Km ? Galon is about 5.5 litres ? |

In my experience Honda's quoted overall figure of 55 mpg is easily achieved in a mixture of driving conditions simply by sticking to the speed limits and by applying moderate acceleration. If one drives for economy, it's possible, as others here have noted, to achieve significantly more than 60 mpg - my personal record so far is 69 on a 25 mile journey (this, by the way on the trip computer which tallies with our fornightly brim-to-brim fills as near as dammit). If you're getting less, it's down to your choice of driving habits, not the car. KevinF. |
