I've been the owner of a 2.2 cdti ex for almost 12 months but have been experiencing performance problems for about 4 months.
Problem is at around 2500/3000 rpm accelerating from 3 to 4th gear or 4th to 5th the engine appears to misfire - this takes several second to clear and on occasions have to change down gear as low as 2nd sometimes. This is intermittant but getting much worse - to a point the other day that the car appeared to have this poor tickover when at traffic lights when trying to pull away the engine stalled. Have taken it into the local dealership - coundn't find anthing wrong!!! Anyone else out there having this problem???? |

I have never had a problem like that on my 2.2 civ.
It sounds like the ECU is having problems or a air filter/turbo prob, just out of interest how many miles have you done? and how often is it used? I did have something v. similar to that on my old (12 yr old!!!) fiesta, but that was a 1.3 8v petrol engine. This was cleared up with new sparks and a flush of the engine. - not really helpful to this post, but i feel better now! |

missfire
I‘ve had no problems with my 2.2 so far (touch wood) however I did have something similar with my previous Peugeot 407. Symptoms were an occasional ‘misfire’ (if that’s the correct term for a diesel) whilst accelerating after previously slowing down for a roundabout. It was more persistent if I was diving enthusiastically. Turned out I had a fracture in a fuel pipe where it joined the filter – Air in the fuel giving the hesitation. – Took several visits to the dealers as “it works for us fine” been the standard reply. After two no starts and 2 AA reports stating there was air in the fuel system the car was finally fixed. Suggestion would be to check where the manual prime pump is (you’ll need this to re-prime the system) if you have a no start and to check or get checked all the fuel in /out connectors.
Hoper this helps? |

My thoughts were the ecu and throttle set up in particular - I've suggested this to the dealer.... the car has 9000 miles and is used daily approx 250/300 miles per week...I'm about to take it back in for the third time.

I had a similar problem with my Citroen C4 HDI, it was eventually diagnosed as a blocked injector that had subsequently cleared itself, unfortunately the engine management had over-compensated for the problem. Resettingn the ECu solved the problem.

Hi All
This misfire seems to happen if you do alot of town driving in the diesel. It happened on my A class. I had to put fuel injection cleaner (forte) in until it cleared. It took about 3 months to clear. Since then I always give the car a thrash maybe 3 or 4 times a week. |

A friend of mine, Mechanist and Truck driver tell me that here in France it's better to avoid Supermaket Diesel because it contain more water and impurties than in petrol station. Plus the additive the main producer are adding to the product ? Could it be the cause of your problem Drover ? |

Hi I-noel
I tend to use Texaco. Mainly because its low sulphur and it has good additives. I use Millers diesel clean plus which raises the cetane value of the fuel and lubricates the injection pump. (Low sulphur diesel has lost its lubricating properties). It also gives improves your mpg and gives approx 5bhp extra power! The new fuel from Shell looks quite tasty. Its part synthetic ( which means it has no impurities in it and part normal diesel). Its said to improve performance and fuel consumption. |

It's difficult when the dealer doesn't get to see the fault. With this in mind, I would enquire if the dealer can hook up a diagnostic unit to the car which logs the engine as you go about your daily business. I doubt they will but I think it's possible.
Failing that, they will have to make their best guess and start replacing things, else wait until it breaks down completely. |

Same problem with mine - but it gets worse. Eventually cuts completly. Will restart after a short dealy, then OK. Next stage in progression is that it will not start - requiring a wait and up to a dozen attempts.
Honda's diagnostics seem to draw a blank. Anyone else with similar issues? |

Sounds likely that the car is not burning the fuel thoroughly (a particular problem if you have a DPF by all accounts). Need to be 'thrashed' occasionally to burn the exit clear.
