happy new year to you all

I purchased my Civic 2.2 CDTI Ex last march and covered 26700 miles. It has had 2 services and had 2 new tyres. I had continental sports installed. I fill up with Shell Diesel Extra and get 470 miles out of a full tank. Has anyone else managed to get more. If so, please let me know

Thanks

Subha

@subha 470 miles on a full tank...well that number doesn't give a good indication. How many liters were used ? 40, 45 ?
it's better to write down the amount of liters that you filled the tank up with....

ok 47 liters for 470 miles.

in Dutch terms that's 1:10 miles, 1:16 km's.
in MPG I can calculate, but there are differences in MPG because of difference in UK or US Miles/Gallons, so i don't calculate that one...

Use the Imperial (UK) gallon.

Easy
1 Mile = 1.609344 Km
1 Imp Gallon = 4.54609 Liter

So 1 MPG is roughly 1.61/4.55 = 0.35 Km/L (really 0.354006)
Other way around
1 Km/L is roughly 2.82 MPG (really 2.824809)

These are coarse factors, but usable for a quick calculation.

So basically he got 45.5 mpg (unless my maths is way off!)

My current average (after 5000 miles) is 48.72 mpg since I took delivery (which I think is not bad at all!)

But i bought diesel because of it's torque 340 Nm and you can not compare it with petrol.
Better consumption, speed, smoother engine, acceleration....
And comparing with my old 1,5 ils Civic this is uffffa much better and i am happy even with 43mpg wich is btw much less then before and i can do even better.
Sorry I think you have misunderstood me. I didn’t say there was no difference between to two. What I was referring to was the fact that most diesel owners (including yourself) are claiming an average mpg of around mid 40’s which is what I'm getting from my 1.8 petrol. Driving sensibly I can get mid 50’s too and have seen as high as 61 so on an mpg basis there seems little difference and certainly not enough to make me think I wish I had got the diesel instead. As for torque, engine characteristics, residual values, cost of ownership, etc, etc. Well that conversation belongs in a different thread altogether.

Not over impressed with mine... Although i do only drive short journeys around town i usually get around 280 miles out of a full tank that averages around 30MPG! I'm a very carefull driver and try to keep the economy lights on at all times whenever possible!... Still...it was better than my old EP3 Type-R at 200 miles to a tank!

Yes town driving and short trips kills mine too. My daily commute is around 30 miles with a good mix of roads so I’m very happy with my average of 41 - 44 mpg. On longer trips with careful driving I can get it up to 52 - 53 mpg which is great for a 1.8.

200 miles to a tank sounds bad. God if that were me I’d have gone bankrupt within a year. LoL

Well I managed a brilliant (for me) 41 MPG after a refil last night, did around 30 miles, well pleased.

The basic concept I used was, as soon as I hit 35-38 MPH, go right across into 6th and cruise until acceleration required again. As I came to roundabouts I was going from 6th and 30 MPH down to 2nd.

Probably sounds like a basic concept to most but it has taken me a while to learn that 4th and 5th gear are only really needed for rash overtaking on the motorway....

Just done a journey from Paris and the low light came on just entering Norwich..8 litres left on fuelling......so a 380 mile journey is easy.........better than my prevous 1.6 auto 2001 Civic........same tank size !

I managed about 41.5 mpg on a 60 mile drive on Sunday. I was very pleased to say the least.

The missus got 54.5mpg on a trip to Workington today, not bad considering the car has only done 500 miles.

After a further 60 miles the MPG is down at 34.8

The M77 in Scotland has a lot to answer for, at the edge of Glasgow and at it's lowest point it is raining, you climb to the top of the M77 (1 mile) and it's snowing, must take some amount of fuel to do it at 80

Mine has only done 500 and I am struggling to get better that 38 or 39, I have tried to drive steadily but even then i can only touch the low 40's. The car drives well and pulls well but as for economy it's well below my expectations of high 40's easily.

Any one got any ideas?
