| This thread is about: [MPG] Great fuel consumption, it's in Engines and Transmission at the Honda Civic forum Civinfo; surely the point of 'Climate Control' (as opposed to 'Air Con') is to leave it on all the time anyway?... | ||

My understanding is that climate control regulates temperature by increasing the temp where necessary by blowing warmer air or decreasing it by blowing cold air (air-con). So, the climate control is on, but air-con is only engaged when cold air is required.
Thats how it works on my current car anyway, will find out about the Civic next week! |

Air-con allows cold air to be blown through the vents to cool the interior down and is usually just switched on when required. |

I have also wondered whether the aircon automatically switches itself off when not needed, or if it's manually controlled by the dashboard switch.
Besides: Do anyone know how much petrol the aircon steals when switched on? |

Maybe i'm missing something fundamental here. But in my current car (Ford Cougar) I have climate control on all the time and A/C kicks in when cold air is needed and doesn't when its not. I get a steady 35mpg from the car which is just about right for the 2litre version so I have never worried too much about sapping fuel, apart from in the heat of the summer where air-con is really active. |

This is what I'm interested in: Does the A/C kick in only when needed or will it stay on when switched on? I know that A/C steals fuel and power, but I still dont know how much.

http://www.empa.ch/plugin/template/empa/*/39486/---/l=2 averaged on six car models, the A/C used about 1.6 l/100km (0.57 gallons/100 miles) at 23°C/shadow, and a bit more when sunny. I don't know how fast they were driving (meaning the time needed for the engaged A/C to reach 100 km). Last edited by GHGH : 4th June 2007 at 13:25. |

Why use the search engine when you've got TTDegs to help?

All depends on the size of that right shoe!!!
Heavy shoes have often been blamed for giving poor fuel consumption! "People are falling over themselves to spent £1 or more on a just single bottle of EVIAN water. Anyone ever tried spelling EVIAN backwards?" Charles H. |
