Not surprising that you want the petrol now!

Well I have had my Civic for 5300 miles and I have seen a 10% increase in fuel economy! Just keeping it legal it returns 57 MPG, I expect it to improve further on a long run as 20% of my driving is town work, which kills any economy figures you may have.

mostly motorway driving .. and nothing really over 4000rpm.

it's amazing what you can get if you're more careful with your right foot!

only managed to get 47L in the tank when filling up so I had quite a bit to spare too!

have done a couple of long trips from home to London (just over 350 miles).... tank as full as possible at the start, then refilled prior to coming home. Squeezed just under 35l in before the return journey making average of 54 ish mpg. Display in car read 49... so not sure how that goes.... but not complaining!

Just filled up for the second time and have got 51.2 indicated for the last tank (calculated at 50.31) which is a) not bad at all, and b) fairly accurate from the display

With just short of 1000 miles on the clock I am very happy with this figure!

Now up to 11,000 miles and the economy has settled down to an average of 54 MPG without the climate control and 52 MPG with climate control on all the time. With winter approaching this will be the norm I would say. 2.2CDTI
My mate bought the same car but has only done 2000 miles and has not done any long journes and he is getting just 39 MPG - Short runs only!

yes I can agree with your consumption, used to race everywhere until Plod long distance hidden cameras got me @ 6 points , had a re-think and slowed down. Now best fun is counting the fuel consumption and have got 64 best regular 60, if in a hurry and adhering to speed limits 56/7... impressive... not beaten the 67 quoted though ... well done! (people will think very sad but Civic is just great to drive at any speed).

Just managed to achieve 71.5 avg over 70 miles, ambient temp 8 deg, sunny, fairly constant 55-60 on the beloved M6 using cruise control.

Photo to follow...!

My average consumption the first 15500 km (9600 miles) is 7.0 l/100 km = 40 MPG.

After 3,000 miles, I'm still struggling to get more than 42-43 mpg out of my 2.2.

In my last 3 cars driving the same route to work (50 mile round trip, mainly motorway) at the same speeds, I generally returned about 90% of the official combined figures (e.g. 29 from the petrol CRV, 35 from the petrol 2.0 Z4, and 44 from to 520 Diesel) So I know it's not my driving style, and all cars did this from new.

With the cruise on and set to 80 on the motorway (really 76 mph) it settles in to an average of about 42 mpg, even after 50-100 miles.

A mate with an 06 2.2 with 30,000 miles on is averaging over 50 mpg, all the time!

I've checked the consumption at fill ups, and the computer seems pretty accurate, assuming the trip milo is accurate (although I've tried to compare it with the sat nav, and it does seem to under read compared with the nav, but only by about 1%).

I live in hope that it will improve with more miles, but has anyone had any success taking a 2.2 back to the dealer for a 're-tune'?

I get around 49 - 50 MPG (by the computer) normal driving.

This drops to 35 MPG if I put three bikes on the roof.

25 mpg if towing a 1200kg caravan with the three bikes on the car roof

Mart

at that sort of speed, I'd be getting about low 40s from mine too...
(I have 27K on mine now)

my day to day, mainly commuting 20miles each way, motorway and back roads gives me 43mpg tank after tank.

It is possible to drastically increase the mpg by simply driving more slowly (hence my comment to Rob), but it's not really practical in 'real life' (for me) to drive like that all the time
