Wasn't that impractical today as the M6 wasn't running much more than about 65 in the outside lane.

Gordon Bennett, I must start using less right trotter and start off with time to spare, for my site inspections of a morning.
This time next year, I could be a millionare Rodney.

And I consider myself lucky to get 36mpg but then again I'm a petrol, but I managed a respectable 58 the other day, from a full tank, going along long country roads out near Thanet..... not bad I thought, until I came into town and it dropped to 50, then as I used my...as you so elequantly say.... right trotter...'boof' 37 Tis getting better with each mile I go and I'm averaging a fairly healthy 360+ miles per tank around town.

not sure how mine was run in as i bought used, but it seems ok and doesn't use oil at any great rate (about 1/3l over 6500m). Its just clicked over the 10k mark now if that makes any difference.

Noticed TT posted 73mpg - a target to beat me thinks...!

LOL

was actually a very long and sedate drive from Cardiff up towards Glasgow.
Acheived by religously sticking to mid 50mph, drafting lorries where possible, planning overtaking about 10 miles in advance and never once touching the brakes.
Basically driving like a lorry - letting gravity help down hills, not trying to keep the speed up going up hills (just giving enough gas to not let it slow down too much)

revs as close as possible to about 1500 - 1700

manual throttle (not cruise)

by 100 miles, it was at 70mpg, and gradually, gradually crept up to 73 38 miles later

at which point I was
a) completly bored
b) knackered from all the extra concentration
c) busting

I reckon thats why I cannot get anywhere near 65mpg.
Tis all those stops, due to a weak bladder.

Well I am also impressed, however I do not think I could keep the will to live driving at 56 MPH all the time. I keep it legal-ish and get 54 MPG and be happy with that!

I'm getting around 42mpg on my daily commute (about 30 mile round trip) - in the morning its mostly stop start motorway traffic and then slow urban and the evening tends to flow a little more - cruise a long at about 65 on motorway.

Cars done just over 3,500 miles now. I am hoping the MPG will improve a little bit more but for the commute I do I'm pretty happy

i think it depends on what road you are on, the M6 between the M6 and M56 at the time i use it is either stationary or running at 50-60, so its no choice for me, might as well take it easy and maximise the i-CTDi economy...

Have had my 1.8 Type S gt nearly a month now. It had just under 5000 miles on the clock when I picked it up. I managed 51.4mpg on a trip from Staffordshire to Brighton using Cruise at 70 on the motorways (Where permitting on M25 anyway). I do roughly 50 miles a day with a stop to drop and collect little girl from nursey and about 20 miles on dual carraigeway with Cruise on 70mph. I can average 41mpg, getting between 390 - 420 miles per tank. I am really pleased with this, I had a 1.9dci Laguna before and managed between 42 & 44 mpg doing the same daily journey

In my last 3 cars driving the same route to work (50 mile round trip, mainly motorway) at the same speeds, I generally returned about 90% of the official combined figures (e.g. 29 from the petrol CRV, 35 from the petrol 2.0 Z4, and 44 from to 520 Diesel) So I know it's not my driving style, and all cars did this from new.

With the cruise on and set to 80 on the motorway (really 76 mph) it settles in to an average of about 42 mpg, even after 50-100 miles.

A mate with an 06 2.2 with 30,000 miles on is averaging over 50 mpg, all the time!

I've checked the consumption at fill ups, and the computer seems pretty accurate, assuming the trip milo is accurate (although I've tried to compare it with the sat nav, and it does seem to under read compared with the nav, but only by about 1%).

I live in hope that it will improve with more miles, but has anyone had any success taking a 2.2 back to the dealer for a 're-tune'?

630 miles from the last fill in ours.

wow the comparison with the laguna is amazing
OR the 1.8 has great mpg OR the laguna was crap OR both
i am only getting 32 mpg from my 1.8 lately but this is lots of city driving and sometimes putting the pedal all the way down

The Laguna was a really heavy car so fuel consumption not the best. I have yet to see the orange lights on the dash but feel I owe it to the Type S to give it a bit more stick. I do think the acceleration in 1st & 2nd is fantastic, 60 is easily achievable in 2nd

even with spirited driving you ought to see the eco lights occasionally Mark - even if its just as you coast up to the red light!

are you sure they are turned on?
(you can turn them off via the computer thingy )

My fuel consuption has got worse with the cold mornings, now down to 55.9 from 56.4 for the first 900miles, not sure I can cope with the disappointment. I was hoping to get 600miles from this tank, but I think I will be lucky to make 550, being that I am too chicken/sensible to run to long with the fuel light on.

I am amazed by the 70plus mpg, mine will only reads 50mpg at 65mph on the flattest road. You guys must be doing some serious drafting, or is it because mine has still got some running in to do? The only reason I get in the 50's is because I do at lot at 40mph which gives around 75mpg.
