Great fuel consumption

Hey is everyone getting the sort of fuel comsumption that I am getting ?

I own the baby of the range the 1.4 SE but I am getting 47-49 mpg . This is great considering the power to weight ratio. Although I have also endured most of the problems the fuel economy to and from the dealer is excellent. And of course all other trips !

Or is someone now going to tell me not to trust those clever high tech looking instruments.

I get most around 50mpg most of the time in my diesel, mixture of driving, today I managed 67 ave on the way to work (just over 20miles) the 57 on the way home, that was being very patient and boring though.

makes you wonder

makes you wonder how they can quote figures they do
on the diesel it states urban 42.2 per gallon

extra urban 62.8 per gallon and combined 53.3 per gallon
anyway its worth it having the civic smile
so it does not seem to be that far out depends if I'm wearing lead boots i suppose

regards Pete

Yup. That's not surprising. Cruise at the speed limit and don't mash the pedal to get to it and it's easy to get 55-60 or more.

2.2 i-CDTI
my mileage @ 23.000km (~14300 miles) : 5.8l/100km (~48.70mpg)
It dropped from 6.6l/100km (42.80mpg) since the last service at 20k kms.

Have to admit, on my daily commuting trips (25kms), I always keep the engine in the 1500-2000 rpm band. Only during longer trips in the weekend, I push it to 3500rpm, but only when the oil reaches normal operating temperature (>20 miles).

As a Honda worker - loads of me mates have Civics. Best consumption I've heard quoted is 65mpg - creeping behind lorries up the motorway at 55mph - this is with a brand new engine mind - not run in yet. Most achieve about 55 - 60mpg on a steady run.
I have a CRV diesel (same 2.2 engine) - 38 round town, 52 on a steady run.
Hope this helps.

You have to remember that when manufacturers quote MPG figures it is done on a rolling road and does not take into account the many many variables of real world driving. Anyone hitting between 45-50 is doing very well.

According to the cars computer the first (and worst) tank reads just above 44 mpg, and the best in 3698 miles well over 51 mpg. Calculated thje figures are 40 mpg and just above 46 mpg, so I don't trust those clever high tech looking instruments.

goin to sj's meet...i was averaging 70-80mph...cruise control was fixed at 85 for most of my journey...mpg 'read' 38.9mpg...from a full tank at the start of the day, id used nearly 3/4s covering 280 odd miles! piss poor in my eyes as my deisel CRV did 400 miles, using approx half/almost 2/3s of a tank!

51.6 mpg out of a 1.8i PETROL engine

Talking about fuel consumption, i just had to get my girlfriend to take a picture of my mpg whilst going away for a weekend over Easter.

M25 was stop and start, with some nice long bursts of empty motorway. I slowed down to the early 40's so that my girlfriend could take a picture.

It was a 58 mile journey and we were half way there at the time of taking the picture - I can't believe that figure! Can you..?

So whats the lowest mpg people have got in the i-cdti?

After quite a 'spirited' drive on some empty motorways I got her down to an average of 31mpg over 200ish miles...

6000 miles at 45mpg overall.
Worst was 35mpg when I was on a 4-mile commute.
My current commute is 18 miles, taking in the delights of the A3 and part of the South Circular, and gives me 52 mpg.
I'm happy with that.
I had a 1.4 petrol courtesy car yesterday, only for 25 miles, but that gave me 45mpg too. That did impress me.
