LPG vs. Honda Warranty
Hi all,
I've been toying witgh the though t of an LPG conversion for a while on my current car but seeing as it's getting old I've been putting it off. Now that I've ordered my new Civ I am thinking about it again. The dealer is clueless so I though I'd see if any of you had any experience... Does fitting LPG void all or part of Honda's warranty? Is there a select list of approved installers or anything? I'd really like to pay less for fuel and get out of paying congestion charge but I'm not going to cut my nose to spite my face. Cheers H |

I've always understood that after-market LPG conversions did not get you out of congestion charges.
But things might have changed over the last couple of bureaucratic years. |

That's intersting - I've been toying with the LPG conversaion idea for some time. There's enough LPG filling stations to not worry about where to fill up.
I hate Ken Livingstone's CC and Central London's public transport is awful, especially as we're getting warmer weather. As Hhuberla points out; I, too, would like to know if an after-market LPG conversation would void Honda's warrenty. I'll probably give my dealer a call tomorrow to find out (if he's open on the Bank Hols.) I let you lot know if I get a logical answer. Cheers. |

The dealer I aske dwas clueless as I mentioned. He seemed to think that Honda wouldn't finance the car if I intended to do a conversion (wot?)... He said he would need to call head office though but that he may only get back to me in about a week. Seemed pretty useless so that why I thought I'd ask here... Maybe I'll give Honda head office or customer services a call to see if they are any wiser.

Ok, I heard back from the dealer who has heard back from Honda UK. Apparantly they don't recommend LPG (just like they dont recommend fitting your own sound system or blue interior lighting
I guess the really bad news for me is that they wont warranty an affected systems. I guess the hard thing to figure out is exactly what is defined as an affected system? The entire engine? Transmission too? Only the fuel system? Rings, pistons?... I wish they would just put something official out cause my confidence in the dealer network is not incredibly high... H |

I would guess that what they mean is
if it breaks, and we can prove that what has broken due to the LPG conversion, we aren't going to fix it for you. As to what could be 'affected' - I would say potentially almost anything... If you get the work doen by "Bob's backstreet LGP coversions" (sic), and he fits a 2 ton tank, it's going to knacker your suspension. If he runs the mix too lean, it's going to knacker your rings / pistons If he screws up the controller, it could blow up all sorts of electrics... etc etc All that said, if the LPG conversion is any good, then you should have no need for the warranty... But if your engine is going to blow up anyway (hope not!) and Honda can point the finger |
