My new CDTi Civic
Hello all
Been using the forum a fair bit for info and advice so far. Firstly, what MPG have people been seeing with their Diesel Civics. Ive done 2300miles now, and on length of M6 off boost i see 48mpg. Driving it hard on back roads approx 42mpg. Used BP Ultima Diesel on way back up M6 yesterday and driving very old style off boost all the way i scraped 50mpg. Our old Golf TDi 130 managed a regular 54mpg - 56 mpg on same trip..... Also the new persex dash, jesus christ you just have to breath on that and it scratches.....any ideas or comments Also, my last car was a Type R EP3 and from new used oil regularly. Ive checked oil at fill up of fuel every second time and it still after 2300miles hasnt moved a millimeter. I did the usual 500miles steady driving and then slowly built up revs over next 500miles. Now i often drive it like i stole it, and its still yet to use a drip of oil...or so it appears. Whens the best time to check the oil level on the diesel engine, as Type R was 30min from turn off. Thanks in advance. Paul |

http://www.civinfo.com/forum/search....readprefix=MPG My Golf 150 did 45, my Golf 115 did 48 and my Golf 90 did 48. The trip computers on the Golfs all read 3 mpg high though. My Civ is doing 46 (48 on the computer). Quote:

Mine has also dropped to 36, I rarely do motorway miles and push the engine hard. Though I didn't buy the diesel for economy (sounds mad), I just loved the performance, so the mpg doesn't really bother me, it usuall floats between 40/45 which isn't bad all considered.

Headwind and tailwind have a reasonable effect, road surface (watch the mpg dive on the concrete M180), uphill and downhill (15 miles to work - 55 mpg there, 41 back all at the same speed) but most of all speed. I once had to go really slowly (going to an airport, too early, with 4 year old in the back so wanted to reduce airport time) so I slipped in with the slow lorries at 56 mph and low and behold 62 mpg over many many miles.

speed does make a huge difference
admitedly on completly different routes - but when I do my normal (ie running late when I did a much more sedate (but also motorway) 200 mile round trip at 65-70 cruise, it was low 50s overall, after 14K+ miles I've averaged about 45mpg not as good as some, but a darn site better than I got in the TT there does seem to be a very wide range on what people get from their 2.2s - possibly down to the heaviness of right feet |

Yup, that'll explain a lot with me. Got 52mpg crusing at 75 the other week down the A1(M), but generally around the doors and commuting to work (4 miles) I get around 40-45 mpg at best, but its always fast and furious.

First tank, 37mpg. Average over first 1500 miles 42.1mpg. Am about 3/4 through my first tank of BP Ultimate diesel............ WOW. Much smoother, pulls like a train, quieter AND currently averaging 46mpg on mixed driving. Won't be my last tank. Sod the Tesco clubcard points!. Am coming closer and closer to that Superchips moment as the days go by. The Ultimate diesel has whetted my appetite even more!

The Ultimate petrol fuels are the only thing I ever use in the ST, much better for the engine with better economy (although that would't be hard!) and more power.
The Ultimate diesel fuel is amazing, and takes a lot more effort to produce than the petrol. Well worth it though, I used in my truck (when I was a driver) and I would regularly get another 100 or so miles out of a tank! It also smoothed over a few dead spots in the lower end. Note: it had a 205 litre tank |

Mine has had its first service today ,just under 9000miles, 12months next week! Acording to trip computer 41 mpg cumalitive for mileage total. Mostly short journeys. (like a few people I didn't choose a deisel for the economy but for the grunt !) In addition to service ( £123 by the way ) Both front shockers replaced and apparently the springs on the rear had been fitted upside down from the factory !!!
Has got to go back for screen moulding mod and to replace the auxillary drive belt as it is showing signs of cracking. The car is much improved with the suspension mods . |

I might win that game...
I can never get Ultimate to be economical. In fact it costs me about 5 mpg. But I suspect the ECU is reacting to the better fuel and giving more boost, because the car goes like a train, and is so smooth and silky. Furthermore, I "cheated" with the rolling road linked in my sig - that day I made sure I had Ultimate in the tank. |

just on 1500 miles in mine overall average of 44MPG that's a mix of Mway and round town driving. First tank was 38MPG so definitely getting better and the engine just gets smoother

First tank of diesel - 309 miles
However maybe it wasn't filled to the top? MPG is around 38-41mpg but most journeys are urban. Filled up at a BP garage - I assume "Ultimate" is the standard diesel and it isn't an optional more expense one? |

The ones I know of are A2 Bangor Rd, Belfast bound just before Holywood. Middle Road and Prospect Rd, Carrick. Station at end of M1 after Dungannon. There are none in Co. Fermanagh or Co /City. I know only too well as I sailed past the M1 one this morning with 100miles left in tank towards Enniskillen, then had to go to Strabane and /city, NO BP stations, had to put in ordinary diesel. Not Happy. Took the easy option eventually and went into Donegal and stuck in a few quid at 75p/l. Won't be caught out again. The BPUltimate website lists all the available sites throughout UK and NI. Am going to print off and put in car. Managed 51mpg today over 275 miles, over all terrain, albeit not driving the back roads in my usual "I'm late" fashion! |
