Wrong Oil for Diesel 2.2

Picked up the car last Saturday and just received the sales service invoice from the dealer (Renault not Honda). It shows that they have filled the car with Mobil S 10W40 which appears to be a semi synthetic oil not a fully synthetic oil.

The manual and a search on this forum appears to show that the engine needs fully synthetic 0W30 oil.

I have only done 100 or so miles on the new oil in the last week. Should I change out to fully synthetic ASAP or would it be OK to leave in until the next main service in 2 months time? What are the issues with this - could it cause damage to my engine?

Any advice appreciated.

Martin

Dealer now saying that whilst it says Mobil S 10W40 on the sales invoice, that they actually used Elf Evolution SXR 5W40 fully synthetic! How can I tell that this really is the case?

Will just have to get it changed out by Honda next month for peace of mind anyway.

I'm not surprised they said that. It was the first thing that entered my head when I read Coste1l. That's still the wrong oil though. I'd insist they change it.

Tell them you don't care what they say, you want the oil changed to be on the safe side as that is what it says on their invoice. I'd tell them you want to be there when you do it too.

+1... this is a diesel with turbo... 0w30 or 5w30 full synth if you must.

Don't take any crap for them, they should be more careful with what they put on their invoices in future. Like I said, insist on being there when they do it too, make sure they don't stiff you on it.

Well they shoudn't have done, 0-30 fully synthetic is the only correct one.
These garages are all penny pinching. Tell them to do the service properly to Honda specification.

castrol longtec 0w30 is what my dealer puts in and there is abouyt 10 stickers throughout the car to remind me of the correct oil, as well as a leaflet in the handbook. even castrol website recomends 0w30.

dont take ***** from untrustworthy dealers. demand demand and demand..

That Wiki is very useful - and yes as everyone else has said if you care about your engine just change it for 0w/30 asap.

Checked with my local Honda dealer also and they are using Mobil 1 0W30. What's the opinion on it? Is Castrol Edge 0W30 better?

Also should the engine be filled to the max mark on the dipstick in the 2.2 or is it OK mid-way between?

Thanks in advance

As long as it's 0w30 fully synthetic then you can't go wrong really. So are the garage going to change the oil free?
