COOLANT

I don't want you to repeat my stupid mistake, so please always remember to use Honda antifreeze when you top off or change the coolant. Do not use any other coolant, since it's not allowed to mix different brands - especially not silicate based with silicate-free (Honda).

I was in Poland on vacation, approx. 150 miles away from the nearest Honda dealer. Noticed that I had to to top off (was below the min. level), so I went to the nearest petrol station and bought some ordinary coolant and poored about 0.5 liters into the system. After that I have read about 1000 comments on the Internet saying that you should NOT mix silicate coolants with non-silicate. God, I feel so stupid!! I talked to a Honda dealer in Poland, who told me to forget about it, but I'm not so sure that he is right. Maybe I should drain the system, flush it and then refill with proper Honda coolant. What would you guys have done

Half a litre shouldn't hurt - but maybe if you got the dealer to replace the coolant at the next service it might make you feel more relaxed!

Makes me wonder where the coolant has dissapeared in the first place?

I noticed mine was slightly down as well, but I find it quite difficult to check the coolant level accurately because of the bottle moulding/shadows. Best way to check is to pull the car into the shade and shine a torch into the bottle through the filler hole.

I really don't know why. I checked it for the first time after approx. 6000 km and noticed that the level was below min. Don't know if it was topped off properly when the car was delivered to me. Is it possible that some of the coolant has evaporated (it has been really hot here in Poland during the last few weeks)? Anyhow, I haven't noticed any leaks under the car.

Its been really hot over here too. I've done over 3500 miles, no oil or water needed. I'd keep a beady eye on the level over the next couple of months.
