I've got a lot of sympathy with this post. I have found with nearly every car I have owned, you get mpg claims made that seem complete fantasy.

I get 38.5 from my 1.8 petrol overall. The most I have ever got from a tank is 44.8 mpg and that was a long journey with lots of motorway and never exceeding 70 mph.

It was the same with my Golf Diesel. 53.3 combined - I got 48 and once, only once, managed 57 on a long trip.

How these people get these figures is a complete mystery.

Refueled this morning before a long drive..

Result with some careful driving and just following traffic I ended up with these numbers..

330km driven, km to refuel close to 59x km, avg consumption 6.1L/100km, avg speed close to 80km/h...

Sorry for shouting.. BUT I'M GOING FOR 850+Km

And this is on 18" Type R alloys and CC and aircon ON...

Got the new civic I dtec se don't look at the range as its a company cay iv had it 3 weeks and done 3500 miles getting 56 - 63 mpg on a daily basis sitting on motorways at 70 - 75 and the odd bust to 85 , considering the power you get when you need it I can't fault it

2.2 I-CTDI, last 1400 km with 4 people and full trunk with backpacks - 5 liter per 100 km. avg speed .. around 70km, the car have a premier tunning remap.
The best that I achieve was 4.5 with a very gentle drive.

I've got the new civic, 2.2 IDTEC. sitting on the motorway at 70-75 with CC on, getting 62 mpg Have done 220 miles this week (used about a quarter of a tank of diesel!!). and the range display says I have 583 left in the tank. not bad considering its just over 3 weeks old!!

To be honest, I don't think it's far fetched that people get different MPG with the same cars. I have found that most petrol stations fuel changes quite a bit. My recent fill up at tesco I've struggled to keep 60mpg (diesel), but the time before at the same station i was managing getting 65. Using the shell Vpower near my home I usually get about 64mpg, and the total garage just outside of Stevenage I was getting a whopping 70-72mpg

I have a 2.2 d with 30k on the clock and ave. is around 47. Had it around 56/8 with motorway at around 65mph in 6th, boring as hell!.

Full tank I think around 480, although it can say maybe 540 if I fill up but that drops rapidly if u even touch the Go pedal!
