Diesel Difference

My daughter works in the management of a logistics company that run a fleet of lorries delivering to a large nationwide DIY chain. She was telling me that a few months ago they changed suppliers of diesel fuel and as a result that the average MPG of the lorries has gone up from (I think she said) 8.6 MPG to well over 9 MPG.

I can’t remember what company they were using, but I do know that this supplier also supplies one of the large supermarkets chains which I usually go too!

Does anybody out there know of any reasoning behind this? I thought that Diesel was all manufactured to a standard and would be the same wherever you bought it. Has anybody noticed a difference between fuels bought from different outlets?

It's all down the additives that companies put in it.

i didn't realise lorries had such bad fuel consumption.
You would have thought they'd have developed them to be slightly better than that.....!

Have a think about engine size, weight and aerodynamics.

In Sweden lorries can be up to 60 tons, I think slightly less in the UK, but still! Compared to 1500kg of streamlined car....

Personaly I think that 40 ton plus, 18 wheels and a heavy right foot of a lorry driver, 9 MPG is very good. MPG to wieght it equates to well over 200 MPG in a car - now that would be impressive!
