Checking my oil!

Hello everyone,

I'm sure this has been covered before, however i am always very paranoid about my oil. I always keep it topped up.

Now i know to check the oil when your car is on a flat surface and the oil is partially warm etc.

But when you unscrew the oil check bit, clean the metal and then dip it back in... DO YOU

A) Plug it right back in, so that the metal is at the point it would be if you were to close the bonnet (you have to twist / screw it back in)

B) Just push it down as far as it can go, without twisting it to click back into the stopped position

The reason i ask this is...

When i do A i am right on the Maximum for oil, and when i do B i am just above the minimum.

So i'd like to always keep it topped up just below the maximum

Cheers guys

Option A always goes down to where it permanently sits

Depends how much from min to max is 1litre i believe so you can guage size of overfill from that but it puts pressure on seals etc its not a good idea to overfill (i know it wasnt on purpose) if its a fair amount id suck it out with something.

Depends how much you call a bit, just over maximum will be fine but any more and you can do just as much damage to the engine as you would if you ran it with not enough oil

A little bit too much oil is better than a little bit to little, but, dont put loads over the top dot!
