Noise from air filter?
Hi everyone,
Need a little help if possible. Father-in-law did the service on my 2007 Civic EX 2.2 diesel yesterday, obviously changed oil, filter, air filter and cabin filter. Strangely though since then there is a noise when revving the engine. It sounds like the exhaust blowing but from under the bonnet. I have noticed that the housing that encases the air filter does have some play on it, which i presume is normal. Not so sure whether it is an air noise or a vibration. Just wondered if anyone has experienced anything like this. All the hoses seem fine so really baffling me. Any help really appreciated. Thanks, Rich |

What was the replacement air filter used? OEM or aftermarket?
Get someone to rev the engine whilst using a cardboard tube against your ear to pinpoint the source of the noise. |

The cover on the air filter should be opened and reseated. Also check the tubing joining immediately onto the air box for any loose joints. I don't remember the airbox being loose when i put a k&n in a few weeks ago. An OEM filter shouldn't change the noise.

Thanks for the replies.
The filter housing was in clipped, old free slid out, new one slid in and them clipped to close. That's the reason I don't understand this, nothing else was touched. |

It's definitely the filter. I had the same problem. Like you I thought it sounded as though the exhaust was blowing. However you can feel the lid of the airbox vibrate at certain revs. I replaced with an OEM one and the problem went away. The OEM one had a slightly thicker rubber gasket than the Unipart one I replaced, and was slightly more difficult to close the clips around it. It possible that disturbing the lid of the airbox when you took the old filter out means that even if you put the old one in, because it's previously been compressed, it won't reseal.
To summarise; get a dealer airfilter. |
