Turbo sound?
Hi there,
I've got a Seat Leon 1.9 TDI (standard) at the moment, I'm getting my Civic 2.2 i-CTDi in about 2 weeks. The last time I drove in one, I didn't pay any attention to the sound of the engine. My Seat has a turbo sound that you can hear very well Thanks! |

It does. The diesel is very quiet and smooth (owing the the balancer shaft) and the turbo sounds more like someone saying "Shhhhh" than a whistle.

I think the engine sounds quite cool.
Quite a distinct sound from the turbo / intercooler. I say intercooler cos the sound definitely comes from the front left as you're inside the car which is where the intercooler is mounted (not sure where the turbo is). Sounds like you're driving an oversized scalextric car sometimes! |

Mine make's a "shhhh" type of sound and on the 4-5-6th gear the sound feels like some extra wind kind of noise adding to the outside wind while driving at higher speed. A kind of windy sound comming out of the bonnet, i am taking it to honda tomorrow just for an inspection as to see if there is no leakage at the turbo system. I'll keep you all in touch and give you the verdict of my visit, wont be long !!

Hi again,
I'm comming back to you to give you the verdict of my visit to honda regarding the turbo" shhhh" sound and the truth is : THIS IS NOT NORMAL !!! The flexible rubber tube are fixed with two ajustable metal collars and one of them ripped off and the tube got sleightly off the center of the pressur box thus giving pressure to the gas supply system giving me a little loss in torq & power and of corse leading with a quite noisy "shhhh" sound. This tube goes under quite a lot of pressure and expands from time to time and many new cars seems to have this "shhhhh" sound because at the manifacturing bench, these collars are not strong enough !! They changed it in less than 30 min and the result is : NO NOISE AT ALL !!! MORE TORQ AT LOWER REVS AND STARTS UP AT 1500 REVS INSTEAD OF 2000 REVS. iIf you guys have this sound please go and check it with your closest dealer !! Hope this helps as much as people who would be concerned about it. |

He took it back twice in the first few months complaining of a possible leaking exhaust gasket ect. Service manger tried to grin and say its because the Seat is "setup to give a sporting exhaust note" His experiences with the Seat was what put me off a Leon 170 BHP FR, mainly his fuel economy is not that great with the 1.9 TDI and the intrusive muted flatulence from under the bonnet |

I've just meet a collegue at work who has a Seat leon turbo diesel remapped to 170 hp and told me he was sick & tired of it. He wants to go in for a honda civic as i showed him mine, tomorrow i will take him for a ride and he will certainly end up getting one
Regarding the turbo sound, it is VERY silent !! You can hardly hear it ! in fact if your driving on 2nd or 3rd gear at 6 o'clock in the morning, you will hear a very sleight "hsss" noise but as you speed up on 4th to 6st gear, as the wind get more noisy, you can't hear the turbo at all !!! If you do hear it at high speed as i did before repairing the turbo duct, then you gatta problem, that could be solved easy |
