TypeR vs Diesel Remap

I was just wondering what's quicker really.

The Type R is 197 bhp though with less torque, just wondered what would win in a straight line..?

Assuming a fairly long straight line, a Type R I would think - but in real life, ah well...

This has already been discussed in depth on another link. Pottsy has done a sort of comparison. Lets say youd be surprised.

put it this way - I'm trying to convince my (significantly) better half that next time round we go for a 2.2 Type S with R bits stuck on...

to be fair though - 180/190 is probably around the top end of what you can get from the 2.2

whereas 200 is the starting point for the R.

I guess that if / when the tuners start to roll out bits for the R then it might pull away again

So how far has anyone here actually gone with the diesel?

I'm sure it wouldn't be too big a job to stick a bigger turbo on and remap?

But then put in the ratio of performance against mpg. I would personally sacrifice a bit of performance for almost double the mpg. But then thats just down to everyones personal circumstances though.

But then the Type R does look awesome!!!!!!!!!

Type Rs are petrolhead nirvanah in my view.

What you save in fuel in a diesel you will probably loose in depreciation against a type R.

How many diesel owners are there thinking about trading in for type Rs ?

thinking, thinking, thinking, thought.

No

If my Civ was a weekend fun car, it would be R all the way.

As its actually my company car, which means loads of (slow, town) commuting, even more 200+ mile round trips (on motorways), and on the weekends (and evenings) turns into Dad's taxi for up to 5 of us and a dog...
Then the R doesn't even come close for me

But (to mimic a few others ) - a Type D, diesel with 180+ bhp and R looks - THAT would suit me down to the ground...

It's not that simple, the main contrainst would be room, or lack of it and it would need a better air supply.
