Diesel Fuel Filter - Beware of Imitations!

A couple of years ago I had my 2.2 serviced by a well known tuning company who are on this forum. I knew at the time that they use non Honda filters unless you specify, but I went along with it anyway. After the service, I had a problem with the car which felt like all the world like sudden fuel starvation, but as no fault codes came up, it was difficult to pinpoint the actual cause. Under flat out acceleration, the car would sometimes give an almighty hiccup - it almost felt like you'd hit the brake pedal. Anyway, I put up with it for ages, as it's not that often that I actually really floor the throttle, to be honest. A couple of months ago, I had the filter changed for a genuine Honda one, and guess what - no hiccups or any fuel starvation problems any more. So beware folks, make sure that all the filters used in servicing are Honda, especially the fuel and air filters.

If it is the same as hondas i cant see why it would cause issues.

It is like a no name brand being the same as a name brand in the supermarket.

It may be made by the same manufacturer but one is label honda and you pay more cause it is what honda classed as "recommended"

I would put this down to a single faulty filter not the particular brand of filters.

Lets also not forget that the OP states the filter was changed a couple of years ago. They dont last forever.

Despite the sceptecism on this and other forums, Honda ICTDI cars DO NOT LIKE ANY OTHER FUEL FILTER, THAN HONDA GENUINE.

I put it in capital, as I really mean it

Trust me we go through this almost on a daily basis on the Accord forum.

And Honda doesn't simply recommend a filter, in many cases they manufacture their own (Oil, Air and Cabin to name a few) and the Bosch and Denso filters that Honda dealers supply are Honda approved.

You can buy Bosch filters from ECP etc but they are not of the same quality.

Like he said! If you want to chance it, be my guest, I'll never use anything but Honda filters in future.

Even the honda air filter for the type R works the best.

They do research these things

And you only have to look at all the research that Relic has done on the 2.2 air box and filter element to realise that the OEM design is unbeatable for performance. In view of the fact that the fuel filter is such a pig to change, I'll never bother to save a few quid in the future.

The fault was evident from the time that the non OEM filter was fitted, so deterioration was not an issue.

this is why i buy original parts and get them fitted at my trusted garage least this way your covered by the 12 months warranty on genuine parts, for the sake of a few quid more why compromise.

yep a receipt for genuine parts with a stamp from a vat registered garage is worth much more than a dealer stamp with no paperwork to back it up in my opinion.

Nothing but genuine honda filters for me.
Even supposedly good brands are no comparison.
