[QUOTE=bodgerx;1309413} Short runs are killing the mpg for you.

Should do. I notice if I fill up (the computer is set to return to zero), then drive back home (about 2 miles) even the computer shows something like 28 mpg.

Short stuff really does clobber your mpg.

I'm so jealous: i only manage to get around 28-29 mpg with my Glassroof EX

Real numbers calculated based on distance divided by liters to fill-up
The trips I make are at least 19 miles, I've noticed if the trip get longer the mpg get higher around 32mpg.
Tire pressure High/OK (39psi unloaded), no dragging brakes, AC on auto temp around 71F
Must be the speed on the highway then (80%) around 75mph

That sounds very low to me. Do you thrash it through the gears? I would expect late 30s for the sort of journeys you are doing.

To calculate manually fill her up. Make note of mileage on odometer or reset trip to zero. Drive around till half empty, fill er up again, divide litres put in by 4.546 to get gallons. Divide mileage done by gallons to get MPG. My average at 39 with my worse being 30mpg and thats at first fill up with about 150 miles on clock. My memory playing tricks on me but 39 psi seems high to me, sure it should be 32?? I'd check manual if I where you.

39 is a little high, put fine to run them at. Depends on how much load you carry in the car.

You will get fractionally better eco, less likely to wear the tyre shoulders out prematurely. A hard ride though.

If you don't mind data in litres per km MPG and Cost Calculator and Tracker - Spritmonitor.de has plenty of information for nearly all makes / models.

But you will risk balding the centre of the tyre !! I'd check the manual and use the recommended psi, its there for a reason.

Plus if your involved in a bad RTA the police will check your pressures and if wrong may lay more or some blame on your door step.

Changing subject filled her up BP97 and got 56.5mpg displayed in clock after 8 miles in 30 zone. No doubt it will level out over time, and no I wasnt coasting down hill!

Not at those pressures. Pretty much every tyre I've had has always worn the shoulders first, bringing the tyres up to high 30s combats this. You'd have to have them really high to get the centre wearing out first.

Hypermilers often run at 50+ without any adverse wear. They just need dental work more often.

I can only get 27mpg sometimes on the school runs as the car hardly gets time to heat up but on a recent trip to cornwall I managed 49mpg all based on calculations rather than car comp.

39psi is high must be a hard ride as norm is 30psi all
round for the 1.8

High tire pressure is nice for faster cornering
The sidewalls of the Michelin pilot sport seem to be not that rigid (and they are almost worn anyway)...

No not even that. Sometimes I hit 4000 rpm while accelerating, 2 times at most but that's it.

If you were coasting down a hill i would have expected far higher.
The way i see it, the only way a figure of 56.5 could even be remotely possible would be if you could sit in at least 4th gear and didnt have to stop at all, but i have never personally been in any town where i could drive for 8 miles without having to stop multiple times.
Is there maybe something wrong with your fuel computer?
Driving round my town immediately afer filling up i can get an indicated mid 40's absolute maximum, so thats what makes your figure so hard to understand.

bodger was that being very careful?

this is the link i was looking for above by the way:

http://www.civinfo.com/wiki/index.ph...ld_I_expect%3F

I don't own a Civic yet, but I imagine I would fall into the "Makes progress, but only occasionally full power" bracket - is the 39 MPG on computer figure pretty realistic??

I would be wanting to make at least 39-40 real MPG.

That was a-roads @ 40-60mph.

No idea what kind of driving you do, so hard to comment. I do 30/70 town/a-road and always average around 44mpg indicated, 41mpg calculated. My car is an i-Shift. See the Honest John site for real world mpg.

between 34 and 36 mainly, with lots of short journeys. But on a long run I can get up 40 mph

Only had my 2011 1.8 for about a week and am seeing 46 / 47 on the computer (70 mile round trip daily commute, mainly A roads, with a coupleof smallish towns) - probably about 10% optimistic if my previous Jazz computer was anything to go by. I did find with the Jazz that 97RON gave about 10% better mpg and a marked increase in va-va-voom.

I read some of yours on here and think mine is pretty poor compaired to what some of you say your getting.

I know I only do mainly stop start driving locally so for me anyway I didnt think it was that bad but like said am thinking different now compaired to what I have read.

I got 320 miles from my last tank.

Mixed driving (stop \ start stuff) in Norway, I get about 30 MPG - cruising at UK legal speeds, some 35 MPG or better - flat out on the German Autobahns and the like, around 26 \ 27 ? ...
