But I can't find anywhere selling one for our Civics (but then I don't have Javorb's connections ), so I can't confirm one way or the other. Sorry!

All K&N filters are, and I believe Pipercross oil them to some degree (I believe as theirs are foam (?) they have oil in the to catch dust particles). I must say on my BMW I did notice a fair difference on top end (I.e motorway pull and a better MPG), mine was 2.2 petrol though, from diesels I hear there isn't much gain.

I gather you wont be getting one then!!
Thankyou for pointing out that it makes a small difference and thankyou for supporting those of us that DO wish to get one.
Do we start a new thread to get a list going TTDegs?
Please advise. Your wisdom will be most appreciated
BTW, they wont knacker the MAF because the oil is only a thin film.

LOL - no I won't robbo, but there again, I'm certainly not going to stop you if you want to

Equally though when people are asking 'what is a panel filter?' (and there is nothing wrong with that), then it's fairly obvious that they are not going to know the advantages or disadvantages of fitting one

Will a new panel filter allow more air in? yes
Is this going to give more power? the stats would say 'yes'
Will it sound faster - almost certainly yes
Will you notice? 1 or 2 bhp out of 140 odd - personally my inbuilt power measurer ("does-it-feel-faster-ometer") isn't accurate to that degree But others might be

Ta for the update on the oil / MAF thing - like I mentioned, it could well have been down to complete numptiness on the part of the owners - they could have sprayed them with wd40 for all I know

I originally moved the posts saying 'yes please' out of javorb's tuning box thread, but then this one turned into a discussion too...
But at least all the 'me too's are in the same place now

If this thread starts to wander ever further away from a list of names, I'll chop the 'yes's out into a new thread in the Buying section, which is probably where it should be

Count me in for one. I've had K&N filters fitted to 3 previous cars and noticed an difference to performance and MPg every time.
Citroen C4 2.0HDi (K&N panel filter) MPG went from 46 to 50, bhp went from 138 to 142.
VW Bora 1.9 TDi (K&N Induction Kit) MPg went from 47 to 58, bhp went from 130 to 140 and the exhaust note sounded deeper due to the induction kit.
Renault Laguna 3.0 V6 petrol (K&N panel filter) MPG went from 27 to 33, bhp went from 210 to 215

Wouldn't hesitate in getting one for my Honda. Would rather have an induction kit than a panel filter as there are greater gains and the exhaust note sounds better

Was reliably informed by a specialist diesel mechanic years ago that diesels rely on a good air filter more than petrol engines. I have serviced my own cars for years and he told me to replace the air filter at every service or fit a K%N or equivalent. Fitted K&N to my Cavalier 1.7TD, Rover 75 CDT and Discovery TD5. All three of them showed better pick up and better MPG after. You won't notice massive power gains but I think, if I understand my mechanic friend right, you won't lose power as the filter clogs, the power will be consistent and not lesson as the next service looms.

For warranty reasons won't be servicing this one for a couple of years.

One little point, would the fitting of a non-genuine part, such as an induction kit or performance filter, affect your warranty?

More than likely, it's also considered a 'mod' by your insurance company.

The small gains don't make it worthwhile for me.

I declared it on my last car and it put up the insurance by £3 per annum. + I asked the dealer about it and he wasnt bothered at all. There really is no big deal here. If you want one get your name down in the group buy, if not, thats fine too. Thankyou for your input
