on a diesel engine the slightly more air what you get by this filter won't make anything better!!

What about sound though. In the past I changed Air filters on impreza turbos to K and N and ITG ones and you get a far more satisfying sound from the turbo when its spooling.

What is the advantage of a performance air filter for a turbo diesel engine?
Will the advantages be more pronounced for a remapped engine?

On a standard turbo diesel engine, you're unlikely to see much in the way of a difference - if you did, Honda would have almost certainly saved oooodles of hundreds of thousands on pounds on engine development and simply fitted a £40 filter themselves

However, you may well hear a difference, will could then feel like a difference

As to a remapped (or 'boxed' as it's Javorb's thread ) - well then there is a possibility that the standard air filter has become the bottleneck.
In which case, as less restrictive one might help.

Only way to know for sure?
Take a standard 2.2, and put it on a rolling road.
Replace air filter with less restrictive one. Re rolling road it.
Put standard filter back on.
Apply remap / box of choice. Re rolling road it.
Re-replace air filter with less restrictive one. Re rolling road it.

compare all 4 results

Unfortunately, not something anyone on here has done, or at least shared

Anything that makes the engine breathe more easily is a good thing
Its more pronounced when used with a remap
On average we are looking at about 3 to 5 hp more.
Hope this helps

Performance air filters | Buying Performance Air Filters | Replacing Air Filters | Auto Express

Auto express did a review including rolling road figures on a 150 cdti Signum, Standard, Filter and Induction kit. Results are above. I would be more interested in seeing the torque figures, this would be more applicable to the diesel application. Will go back to web site and have a look.

Vauxhall Signum CDTI
Standard*/Sports filter/Induction kit: 150bhp/152bhp/156bhp

VW Golf GTI
Standard*/Sports filter/Induction kit: 218bhp/219bhp/224.5bhp

so that's..... 2bhp or 1 bhp for the air filter then.
or 6 bhp for a full blown induction kit (with ducting)

So would there be any likely bad points to fitting a replacement filter to our engines? I guess no one really knows at this point.....

generically, there are some historical cases of oiled filters knackering the MAF in cars - though how much this is down to ham fisted over oiling of the filter, and how much is speculation...
