That article completely bears out my experiments and I certainly don't care if I sell my dealer a car with a dirty engine.
I had to smile at the BP tests: they used a Mitsubishi Evo 9 3/4 (I can't remember the version) taken to 7000rpm in the gears.
So driving like that gives us greatest benefit, however it increases our fuel consumption by about 20% average, reduces engine life likewise and increases pollution of the environment.
So Tesco's 95 for me.

I have to say i agree partly with the test. I am on my first tank of bp ultimate. No difference at all in mpg but the car is definately running smoother and there is a difference in performance.
