metalic rattle

Noticed this morning a faint metallic rattle when blipping the throttle whilst stationary (thought it might be the heat shield) but I found if I press the clutch and blip it the engine revs perfect no metallic noise just pure engine noise.
I had my clutch replaced in march so maybe rule that out, could it be the flywheel?? or even worse gearbox, is there anyway of finding out without a garage doing the diagnoses

I have to look for a better gearbox oil I dont want to have to wait for oil to warm up before I get smooth gear changes like last winter

I was in p.m. with oilman about the best gearbox oil for the champ white he told me to either mix a bottle of fuchs mtf with a bottle of Redline Mtl,
Or to sort out any niggles with syncros and the best for the cold weather is to use the Redline Mtl on it's own and to do a yearly change as its a thinner oil than the mtf, which is what I'm doing, at least that way the oil is fresh every year, I know parsco is using this oil and he says it's brilliant stuff.

I've noticed this on mine as well. Sounds like a loose bolt or something.

VTEC engines are noisy though, my ITR motor sounds noisy when cold. As soon as it's warm it's quiet. As for gearbox oil, I'd only ever use Honda MTF. My ITR is on 170k and regularly tracked and that it all it has ever had in it.
