30 mpg 500 Miles - whats wrong?

Had my 1.8 type S GT ishift 2 weeks now. Done 500 miles and its just 30mpg.

I use the cruise control where i can.

I dont push the accelerator more than 2500rpm (mostly 2000 or just under or over)

Im doing short town runs mostly.

Driving very carefully to tune engine in.

Driving mostly in auto mode.

Using BP Ultimate fuel.

Any suggestions for improving the mpg appreciated

thanks

Cruise control isn't great for getting good mpg, as it is constantly changing the throttle just to keep the right speed.

Drive with the paddles, you can change up earlier so keep the revs down.

Use standard fuel. I get better mpg using the normal Shell petrol than the super duper stuff. Strange but true.

I think 30mpg is quite good for that type of journey. You are probably doing quite a high percentage of that with a cold engine and the i-shift only changes up to a higher gear at the last minute.

I found my fuel consumption improved as the miles built up. For the first 20 miles the fuel computer was showing 17mpg ! After 500 miles the engine should have loosened up and things get better. Short journeys in town give high fuel consumption. You could try taking it for a run and see what you get.

I agree with Foggy69 with regards to Cruise Control. I find it causes fuel consumption to drop quite a bit, especially when the road isn't flat, as the car is trying to maintain the same speed.

Well it depends very much on the driving style. I agree that the cc of course is stupid and cannot aticipate changes in the driving. It is also boring.
On the other hand cc is very efficient in limiting fuel consumption when accelerating and climbing hills, so it will avoid any peaks in the consumtion.
And it is tireless and don't easily get carried away.

I must drive in a style that doesn't use much petrol
I usually use more petrol on a long run if I use cruise control, but I do like using it.
It also is boring to use, but motorways are boring to use anyway
