Javorb's Digital Tuning Box

Hi All

Well I've finally taken the plunge and bought Javorb's tuning box. I thought it was better value than the Tunit unit and read some favourable reviews on the Toyota forum. So I have asked a tuning company called paramount performance to fit it for me and possibly do a rolling road test. So watch this space.

Hi All

Visit Paramount Performance today and had the box fitted. Well what can I say, the performance has substantially increased. The torque comes in much lower now and is sustained for longer. The smoothness is still there but the throttle response is so much better. Wasn't able to get it on a rolling road as I didn't have enough time in the lunchbreak. I'd like to take it to the Wales meet and do a test there. Really looking forward to the drive home to test mid range perfomance. It was really flying before the mod so it will interesting to find out what it will do. By the way the mechanic said that the civic has huge performance potential so my mod wont cause any problems with engine, transmission or clutch.

nice one Charley, glad you're pleased

Unfortunately you missed the Wales rolling road day - I've only left it in my sig for the moment as a link to the link to the pics - sorry!

though obviously if you want to pop down anyway, I'm sure Westec will be glad to see you - and I'll pop along for a coffee and a chat!

Hi Charley,

I'm interested in getting this done.

Was it a box type or a simple remap of the ECU?

Also how much does it cost?

Hi Stew 190864

It was digital CRD2 PowerBox. I think it's made by Mal Electronics in Germany. So high quality. There is also an analogue CR-Powerbox which is cheaper at £120.00. Mine was £220.00 from Javorb's website. Although I dealt with him directly as a fellow Civic Info member. All I can say is it definately makes a difference. I currently have it on no.3 which is 25% more power but it can be set on no.4 which is an increase of 30%. So I am still experimenting. Paramount Performance stated that 40bhp can be achieved safely on the civic 2.2.

Hi All

Had a bit of a scare today. Whilst driving to work I started to acclerate and there was no power. The engine was revving but not very much power. I had a chat with Paramount performance. They said was it analogue or digital. So I said digital. Apparently the unit is so good that it has to re learn what the new fueling parameters are. Sure enough, after going for a long drive with the mechanic the engine started to improve, and boy did it improve, it felt even stronger than when I first drove it away. This box is very clever. It's electronics is multi generated, power only if the driver really needs it. eg: if the vehicle is zero or part loaded in operation, all parameters are as original. Its only when the driver presses the acclerator from part load to full load that the boost mode is activated. Its a bit like a twin choke webber carb only tens times smoother.
The mechanic from Paramount said that the full effect should be after say, 200 miles.
Once I have done that I'll see if I can get some rolling road figures.

Hi All

I thought I would give you an update on Javorbs box. The engine has been running fine until I noticed at low revs there was a slight hiccup or hesitation. I'm not sure, but I think that when the engine changes from standard ecu mode to power box, on the odd occasion it senses this. So I have decided to change it to setting 2, which is still 25% increase but a different map. So far I've only had one hiccup, so who knows it might be the optimum setting. Hopefully I will have some bhp figures on the 10 november when it gets the rolling road treatment.

Nice one charlie, you have given an honest opinion of Javorbs box, i too is thinking of " tuning the engine" and have contacted celtic tuning for a price and lead time. Many others have now "released " the true potential of the 2.2 and you have now given me a alternative option as to which option to take.
***** matey, and happy motoring

Hi All

Latest update. Tried to use setting 2 on the box and wasn't as good as setting 3, so switched back to 3. I have now run 3 again for 200 miles and the transtion has vastly improved. Not so jerky anymore, its still there but not as perceptable. Power is just surging, delightful! So next stop, Surrey Rolling Road, the cheapest round my way, £42.00 plus VAT. So we see what power output I've got.
