The EGR valve is the main emissions control component in the exhaust gas recirculation system. The EGR valve is located between the exhaust gas manifold and the intake manifold, it opens a small passageway between these two manifolds to allow a metered amount of exhaust gas to flow back into the engine. This reduces combustion temperatures and helps control the formation of oxides of nitrogen.

its an exhaust gas recirculation valve
A certain revs / temp / throttle position it recirculates some of the exhaust gas back into the cylinders. This has the effect of replacing some of the oxygen which then lowers the combustion temperature. This means that the nitrogen being sucked into the engine also goes out as nitrogen unaffected by the combustion process. If the combustion temperature increases the nitrogen will be altered by this process and comes out of the exhaust as oxides of nitrogen which is extremely dangerous to us and the environment. This is a consequence of modern lean burn engines If the egr valve is faulty the engine will struggle to run the correct fuel / air mixture Hope that helps |

Interesting- A couple of months ago we got a letter mentioning the recall for my wife's 2.2 FRV. We ignored it as we had sold the car (to buy a house...), but I called Honda and mentioned I had a Civic with the same engine.
No problem, I was assured, it concerned only a certain batch of engines in certain cars- Oh, and the problem would only manifest itsself in cars driven on frequent and short journeys (cold engines)... Haven't heard anything about this (new?) recall, though... Maxbert, Luxembourg |

THIS IS VERY FAMILIAR!!
Last year, Skoda reduced the size of the EGR valve gasket on the Fabia vRS (2006 models) to fit in with EU emission regs and had to recall them all due to hundreds of complaints of stuttering engines. The fix they came up with was only partially sorted; it was a slightly larger hole in the gasket. It was called "THE DREADED STUTTER" Some cars are still affected |

We will hear more of this, also with other cars. Diesels are more and more used for short distances, since they run cheaper then petrol ones. (Well, in most countries anyway.) And to make it even cheaper, modern diesels are driven far to gentle. Result: lots of carbon and soot clogging in pipes, valves, sensors,...
And newer diesel engines with DPF-filters are even worse in this matter since they build up internal pollution, before burning it away. Solution: step on its tail once in a while. (And don't believe all the greentalk you hear: In DFP filters, bigger carbon particals are burnt down to small partikels. And what's more noxious? Right. And they use extra fuel to do so!) |

Only a recall on CR-V's and FR-V's CTDI's
On Civic CTDI's it is "customer complaint" only and not a recall. Customer complaint: "My Civic CTDI is cutting out or has lack of power" |

if it is a complaint why would my local honda have a recall notice subject to chasiss no,i was on the phone to the parts supervisor and was querying if the egr valve had bee getting replaced on civics ,as i knew about the crv/frv,that is when he informed me that the head technician had a bulletin in his hand regarding the civic

Thats the difference if he had a "bulletin in his hand"
Bulletins are in effect product updates, which may of may not effect all chassis numbers. If it is a recall, then the manufacturer would send letters out to the owners of the vehicles. As far as I am aware this is a bulletin, so you are unlikely to hear from the manufacturer on this matter and would need to speak to your dealer. As for him just receiving it, it must have come by pigeon post as I've been made aware that this bulletin has been out since the end of August |
