2scarface; the videos are from europe...to be exact from Span, Madrid......not all R18 US are same only LX and DX models have completely same engine as euro R18.....you can also put Fujita CA-192 and AEM CAI on our civics and from injen you can put X-1014-BR, SP1569BLK, SP1569P models....

Also, I've noticed on K&N website , they have a Typhon kit for the 1.8L engine - 5,71 hp gain :

well the sound of the injen CAI sounds super, i dont think that it is possible to gain 7 hp just from it though, but i love that sound. If any of you find it on euro market let us know. Importing from USA, with the Greek Customs would be a pain in the ass

there is kn typhoon kit but it's known that some have problems with them and some not by all reviews and test on some forums everybody recommended Injen and AEM CAI's as vest ones.....and about 7hp or 5hp it isn't possible but there is something in them beside the sound....
drove friends civic with kn kit and 18" Storm alloys and car runs in some situations match better then civic with factory air-filter.....

Why are you saying that 5hp or 7hp gain is not possible ?
It's like saying those dyno sheets are fake ... which I don't think they are.

Regarding the Injen kit, I guess it's the one designed for the US Civic, right ?
Does this fit our European civics (FK2) without any other mods ?

7hp gain on 140hp NA for changing an air filter?

That is 5%

Sounds a bit much to me.

FWH. our civics do not come with 140hp/ even though the manufacturer states this, the type R comes with 165bhp at the wheels, and the civics, (1.8l petrol, 2.2 diesel) including the type S - come at 108 bhp at the wheels. K + N are modelling the first full typhoon system on my type S, and they gave me a rise of 10% power increase after 5700rpm....thats 10% increase on 108 bhp (i know this because my cousin has the type R and we put that on the rolling road, and then mine was)...not 140 bhp at all(trust me i was so gutted when i found out aswel). so roughly car will have 118bhp.....ive already changed my exhaust system tho...so i **** have slightly more once the k+n kit arrives in the UK...

140 is claimed on the flywheel, not the wheels.
And I think it is 140 euro-standard horsepower not UK bhp which is a little less (about 138?).

See this post for conversion factors:
PS v's BHP

Haven´t had mine on a rolling road, so I have no reason or proof to doubt your numbers.

There are several other threads on this topic, however, with different results.
Obviosuly, however, all engines are indiviuals to some extent due to manufacturing tolerances, running in etc

See for example this post regarding 1.8 tests:
http://www.civinfo.com/forum/engines...html#post81509
It shows 118.4 hp on the wheels, 10 more than your test.

One 2.2 has been rolling road tested to 128bhp (sounds reasonable):
Rolling Road Results

This thread claim 181bhp on a CTR´s wheels which again sounds about right:
Real amount of horsepower

Also, some interesting stuff here: Asian Civic 1.8S Power

10% on the wheels for changing air filter seems a lot compared to what I have seen airfilters do on other NA cars, but if you have tested it - then it presume it is so.

What exhaust have you changed to?

2dinoc: yes you can install Injen CAI on our civics without any modifications because US LX and DX models have same engine bay (US engine code is R18A1 and euro is R18A2)....on videos in topic is euro civic 1.8 from Spain (Madrid)!!!.....
and 2f.ss.t:....Type R 8 gen. has about 215-221hp on dyno (friend took his)

Gaining 5-7 bhp this way? forget it. 20 years ago, no problem. But for several reasons modern engines are factory tuned as much as possible. (Within ecological boundaries.) Air intakes are optmised till the point that they are tuned airpipes, giving at resonance as much air as possible. More power with other (cone) air filters? Mostly not, even power loss... Same goes for exhausts.
I witnessed 2 examples of this.
1. Some time ago a bloke changed the complete air intake and exhaust on his CRX VTEC. He wanted the dealer to do a rolling road test, as he thought he had gained al least 10, maybe 15 PS. Results: powerloss over the complete rev-band, except from a little gain in mid revs, 2-3 PS. He thought he had more power because of the complete different, heavier sound. (BTW you have to be some kind of driver to notice an increase of 5-7 PS anyway.)
2. My brother changed the exhaust on his bike, just for the looks and sound, but the manufacturer also promised up to 5 bhp power gain. And yes, there were adverted dyno-graphs to state this. On his bike however, there was powerloss on all rpm, no gain on any moment. When we asked for an explanation at the manufacturer, they said that dyno results are very individual and vary from bike to bike, and that sometimes you could indeed "hardly notice the difference". Well we did, but in the wrong direction!
If you really want a decent portion of extra PS, go for ECU tuning and/or major adjustments. Lighter flywheel, other camshafts, compressor kits,... If you just want the looks and sound of more power, and some bling-bling effect when you open the hood, go for the "tune up" intakes and exhausts. Nothing wrong with that!

K.

Sounds reasonable there Koen! The air intake system on FN2 is very well developed, an improvment from the EP3 even.

One thing i would add, is that a good developed Manifoild exthaust and catback would have some gains, especially together with a well mapped ECU.

Reason for this is the strict laws regarding db of the exthust, forcing manufacturers to put resonators in wich really gives a lot of recistance for the exthaust.
And if you dare, replace the cat, that would really help!
