Engine rattle sound when cold on my CTR
I have notice an engine rattle/vibrate sound when driving the car from cold on my CTR from day one, it appears after 3,500 rpm. I think it may be the exhaust?? This sound disappears when the car has warmed up, anyone else heard this?
I never drive the car hard, and its only got 1,800 miles on the clock. |

No I've never noticed this on mine but it's only done 425 miles. Take it back to the dealers. |

I've not noticed this, i've only done 800miles so far, but I would take it into a dealer to have it looked at. While your at it, start theirs too and see if it does it because you know they probably won't have a clue what to be listening out for and then you'll be able to judge for yourself

I was really looking out for this sound this morning, but the car sounded OK. I think it sometimes appears just after the car has just warmed up. If its was the tappets then it would appear as soon as you start the car and drive off. It must be a vibration from the exhaust when it reaches a certain temperature!

Charlie,
I think I'm hearing a rattle as the car is idling. It disappears, once i drive off. What have you done since you noticed the noise from your car? Goo |

It may well be the chrome triangles that are loose.
It is a known issue. See also here: Exhaust rattle on 1.8 ex |

To be honest its not too bad and not all of the time, I have nt really bothered telling Honda. In some cases they may make it worse but proding around with it!

I have the saloon and I also hear a "vibration" sound in the low revs but only when the car is actually moving at traffic lights etc. I think its a vibration somewhere in the exhaust system. Sounds a little like a vibration with the body somewhere along the line. You have to strain to hear it but its beginning to bug me too. Mentioned it to the dealer and was told all of the saloons do it?? Sounds a bit dodgy to me! if it doesnt go away (which it wont!) I'll bring it back. I think it should be an easy fix but dont want to seem like an overfussy pain either.

Hi Pat, Is the noise coming from around the passenger foot well area? If so have a look under the glove box, there is a flimsy heater outlet that only vibrates a certain engine revs when you are moving along. If you move it around you will find the noise will disappear. I put some double sided tape on mine to stop it vibrating. Also look at the squeaky clutch thread for the answer to you noisy clutch pedal.

I occasionally get a buzz/ resonance at certain revs from this area. I will try the fix as suggested, as it spoils the music from the VTEC engine sometimes ! |

My new 07 cooper s sounded like a diesel when it was cold . This now a serious problem with this Cooper S engine . Some people have had brand new engines fitted ,I hope it was the exhaust on your car.
