Okay I've not gone to bed yet to read the 999 page user-manual I got today but did I not see somewhere that the mirrors on the EX automatically fold when you turn the ignition off?

Gissing's right. What would be really nice would be auto-folding with the alarm on. Pipe dream I suspect.

Yea, could have sworn I saw a posting on some forums somewhere (2TA?) where someone complained that when they turned the ignition off the mirrors folded up so they couldn't see on a busy road when it was safe to jump out... maybe I misinterpreted that... I guess the point was that you couldn't manually fold the mirrors unless you left your keys in, hence, check mirrors, if road is clear you then have to press the button, get your keys out before you can leap out of the car and cross the road!

Nope - they wanted the mirrors to fold as you locked the doors.

As per a 307. Aside from the damage aspect it was always useful to tell from a distance that you had locked the car.

Very surprised that Honda didn't include it with the Civic.

That was me Fed, I asked Honda back in Jan if they could do a mod as I thought it dangerous to get out with them folded. They looked in to it (the folding not the mirror

) and said Honda couldn't do anything but they did have a 3rd party electrician that could, when they asked him he wasn't too keen!?!?!?!? Oh well, something to put down on the Sat survey H just sent me.

As StGeli says on the 307 Dturbo I have they fold when you lock and then open when ignition is switched on.

I wish the honda closed/opened the windows on a long press of lock/unlock on the key, too (like the skoda octavia)

Oh yeah, forgot that one, yes my Pug does that too. Even though Pug rubish car compaired to my new baby they did get a few things right.

Also the thing with locking the doors, Pug locked and deadlocked with one push, seems sensible as you don't want anyone getting in through the window and out through the doors, and second push switched off internal sensors and released the deadlocks in case you have animals inside and want to leave windows open while you pop out.

Why then do you have to press the button twice to deadlock the Civic and why do you have to lock the doors with the drivers door open, hold the handle and then close to be able to leave the windows open?!?!?!?!?

Hi Basegreen,

I second that! In fact, I remember reading in the manual somewhere that the key fob does this, but in brackets saying that this is country specific! So just like the auto-door lock feature, there must be an unlock code for this...

Hope there is, I'd love to have this feature in the car.

I second to that.. They should have been made to fold when the car was locked. I always have a hard time to view the rear before opening the door, after folding the mirror.

I was quite happy with the way it worked on the Jag - it was completely manual, but worked with ignition off. You could look in the mirror, open the door, then hit the 'fold' button on the armrest as you were getting out.

I wonder if the mirror motors have their own fuse? if so, you might be able to bridge across from an 'always on' connection. Must have a look at Stef's wiring diagrams sometime.
