Finished fitting my Infinities this afternoon and went for a wee bast through some of the country roads near me on the way for a carry out.

Stopped atop the Garvock (I can see my house from here) and took some pics of my bonny clean NHB SE.

Where abouts is Garvock?
I'm on a touring holiday next week (a few nights each in Livingston/Oban/Inverness/Dumfries), it looks a nice place to go.

I too will be up't north very soon filming with work (no holiday as yet) around the Oban / Glencoe / Fort William area.

Never heard of it myself, but Googling (and a wee swatch at Google Earth), suggests it's a hill to the east of the A90 Dundee-Aberdeen road opposite the town of Laurencekirk. A nice enough area (except for the myriad of speed cameras), but not on your holiday route, I suspect.

If you're doing Oban to Inverness, can I suggest a side turning to visit Glencoe?
If you go north from Oban towards Ft William on the A828, you'll arrive at it's junction with the A82 at the Ballachulish Bridge.
Instead of following the Ft Bill signs, follow the Glasgow direction on the A82. This will take you up through Glencoe and onto Rannoch Moor in about 15 minutes. Turn at the ski lift or the Kingshouse Hotel at the start of the moor and enjoy the magnificent views on the way back down. Even if it's a filthy day, it's well worth an hour or so to soak up the sights and the somewhat foreboding atmosphere that still seems to linger around there 300 years after The Massacre - Massacre of Glencoe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you're really unlucky, you'll spot Jimmy Saville who lives somewhere in the Glen.

If you've got kids with you, it might be fun to see if they can track down the house in Dumfries where, I believe, J M Barrie wrote Peter Pan.
Also from Dumfries, drive to the lovely little village of Gatehouse of Fleet (30 miles) and have a good lunch in The Masonic Arms. Highly recommended.

Thanks LD. Am really looking forward to the drive from Glasgow to F.William (as I always do - 4th year up there with work) I wonder if my transport department will give me a civic this time?? instead of a fungus...i mean focus!

You are quite correct in the first part. Hill of Garvock is about 5 minutes off the dualler next to Laurencekirk, on the main road to Aberdeen. From this spot you get fabulous views of the Howe of the Mearns and the North Sea.

Well worth the detour if you are heading to Aberdeen at some time, and it's a clear day.

However being originally a Kirrimarian, everyone of us knows that the only town to be properly associated with Peter Pan is Kirriemuir (also on the east of Scotland). Dumfries? Pah!

Barrie was born here and is buried in the local cemetery. There is a statue of Pan in the centre of the town, and Barrie birthplace is open to the public.

Hell my great grandad built the wash-house that he and his siblings used to put on their little plays, and there is even a large stuffed crocodile in it.

There was even once talk of building a wee theme park in Kirrie called Neverland. Michael Jackson put pay to that though. LOL.

Might well do that, Phantom, since we're heading up that way next Saturday for a week in the wee seaside village of Gardenstown, near Banff.

Looking forward to the trip away, but bricking it about taking the Civic along Gardenstown's super-highway main street!

I don't have reversing censors but I wonder if they can detect the ABSENCE of anything behind (like a road surface) .

Yip - that is a 15 foot drop to the beach ! Wish me luck.

I had a good drive round Scotland, almost 2,000 miles in 7 days. There cannot be any more flies left as they seemed to be on the front of my car!
MPG was superb, especially when stuck behind a lorry on some of those A roads. Fuel costs varied, I was especially surprised to find Shell at 92.9/litre in Dumfries.
I went near Gatehouse of Fleet, but liked Kirkcudbright, so went back there later for a meal. Just up the road was a pub/restaurant called the Masons Arms, which I thought might be the one mentioned (I had left my copy of this thread in the B&B!), but as it was not very busy and there were a lot of people in the Selkirk Arms I chose the popular place and was not disappointed. Another good meal was at the Glass Restaurant in Struy a few miles from Inverness.
Saw lots of great countryside, mountains, moors, forests and lochs. I didn't like the midges that seemed to fill the car when I got out for a photo near Kinlochleven. Luckily they didn't bite, unlike the little gits that attacked my legs a couple of days later! The bug repellant is never where you want it!
Saw quite a few Civics in the Edinburgh area, and quite a few on the road to Oban, but no acknowledgements or civinfo signs on the back. Saw another waiting to get on the Oban to Mull ferry with a sticker of some sort on the back, but couldn't read it!
