Since when have Honda charged for a courtesy car?!

Just dropped my FN2 to Honda to have my squeaky dash (pain in the a@@). So took it in, dropped it off and was told the courtesy car I was promised would be £15 a day to cover insurance!!

Never in my time with Honda and the issues (quite a few over the years) have I ever been asked to pay for insurance! Surely form a customer service point of view, insurance should be included!

Best of all, it as told I can use my own insurance but I'll have to pay a £30 admin charge to change anything on my policy!!

UNBELIEVABLE!

They tried this with me, i was very quick in informing them that my car was in being sorted due to a manufacturer fault and so i thought it was quite cheeky to expect me to be out of pocket just to be able to go about my daily routine

Fee waived

Helps if you are quite loud when doing this and also helps if there are people in the showroom at the time

I couldn't believe it! I told them I want a lift home and picking up when it's complete. This experience has given me a chip on Hondas shoulders! Thought this was out of order, rude and cheeky!

I can understand that they are a business, but when it's a warranty issue, just like yourself, why should I be out of pocket!

they tried to charge me when they took my gearbox out...
To cut a long story short, just have a kick off in the showroom and the fee will be waived

Its not Honda charging for the courtesy car. Its for the insurance. A courtesy car is what it is a COURTESY CAR. They don't have to provide you with free insurance or in some cases people think they should get free fuel to. Its the nature of the beast. Things go wrong in all walks of life. In most cases your getting the repairs done for free. Your insurance charging is nothing to do with Honda. Its YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY. Perhaps check with them if they charge before taking it out.

Fair enough if it was using your insurance, but charging you £15 to use Honda's insurance is a bit of a cheek.
They don't charge when you go out on test drives do they.

My local Honda dealer do this but it is only £7.50 so I dont really worry about it but £15 is a joke IMO

In answer to the title of your thread, Honda don't charge you, your dealership passes on an admin fee that in theory is charged to add you to their corporate trade policy.

Couldnt agree more. When YOU ring YOUR insurance company to make a change, THEY'LL charge YOU an admin fee. We have courtesy cars here that don't cost you a thing to use, they seat 74 people and stop outside every 10-15 minutes. Feel free to pay them instead.

See above re admin fees etc. A courtesy car is unaccompanied and for best part of a day. A test drive is usually accompanied and for 20-30 mins max. BIG difference.

If its a manufacturer fault... then Honda should absorb the cost... simple. or would it be better to charge honda for the loss of earnings for that particular day ? (I know economic loss cannot be claimed for legally but still... )

We have 2 Honda's, a 59 Civic and 10 CRV. I regularly take a courtesy car as I need to get to work etc at my local dealer.

At my Honda dealer, the £15 fee is the insurance waiver if you prang the courtesy car (or someone prangs you!). You do have the option of not paying it, but the excess is something silly like £750.

When I had a Toyota (yes, I know.....), the courtesy cars had a default £450 excess (or not far off), so its basically down to what insurance is used.

Ultimately, its your call (well, at my dealer it is!). A very simple risk assessment is all thats needed. Mind you, £15 a day for insurance does work out very expensive if you go down that route!

I too my CTR to Brindley Honda in Halwesowen for the 37,000 mile service. Not only did they price match a high performance independent specialist garage I got a courtesy car for no extra. The only rule was to not let the petrol light come on. I stuck a fiver in it and it was fine. It's a fully speced up Honda Jazz. Was weird to try and keep the car in Eco mode as long as possible!

Cannot fault Halesowen Brindley.

I left my car at the Thames Ditton dealership and they charged me 15£ for insurance (they didn't mention if it was 15£ a day) for the courtesy car and the insurance has a 250£ excess too !

So looks like this is standard practice now

It's called not having the pee taken out of you

If the car is under warranty why should the customer be out of pocket for a honda fault??

The dealer soon waived the fee when i pointed this out proving my point to be fair Dan

Dealerships rely on people not making a fuss and just going along with it...

Was in dealers today picking up some parts and witnessed exactly what i described above,

1 Customer charged for courtesy car made no fuss
another customer 10 mins later was not happy and made this known to dealer principal and had the fee waived ????
