High Mileage....
In the last 9 Months i have put over 21,000 miles on my baby which now has 30,000 miles on her clock.
What sort of milage can i expect to get from her before any major part replacements are required or is it best to chop her in now for a lower milage/new one now ?? |

Like most things, it depends how you drive it! I would expect clutch replacement at 100k, wheel bearings and cv joints to start giving bother from about 60k onwards, Brake pads and disks are consummables and dependant entirely on how you drive it. Over the last 10 years at 30k miles per year and 3 company cars, I've never had a major mechanical repair, ie turbo, gearbox, steering rack, fuel pump etc.
I expect to keep my Civic for at least the length of the warranty, by which time i will have only 90k miles. If all goes to plan I'll keep it 5years and 150k miles. |

Thats true and provided you do the basics, oil top ups and get it serviced regularly, I would agree with madas and not expect any mechanical parts to be changed until the 100k+ mark.

I get ferried around by an "executive car company" as part of my work, and they keep their cars for about 500,000 miles. Naturally they get through consumables, but most modern cars are resilient to mileage. What will wear a car out is abuse, lack of servicing and just plain old time. Which is why a high mileage young car that has been well maintained is normally a bargain.

I agree that as long as you look after it then it should be ok. I have a friend who is a very good mechanic and I once had a cavalier( i know but times were hard) and it was a G reg ( this was about 10 years ago)with, I think, a 100,000 miles on the clock but I asked him to check it out for me. He told me that it was a bargain as it had been maintained well and there were no stuctural problems etc. I was buying it from a local mechanic ( not car sales) and to have both mechanics confirm the same thing was comforting. So I bought it only for it to be written off 1 month later when a motorcylclist decided he like to sit on my bonnet! All his fault actually! He wasn't hurt I was driving under the speed limit at the time ( thankfully) With all my car that I have had I have always serviced them at least once a year, regardless of miles done, to keep them in good condition. |

A bit late posting on this thread but it is a while since I have been on the forum.
One of my driving instructors did just over 115,000 miles in 19 months in his 2.2 civic and nothing to speak of went wrong. He is so impressed he just got a 2.2 Sport Civic to replace it and will do much the same mileage in it. |

I used to have an Accord as a company car- when it was sold off it had 180K on the clock (200 W plate) and was still going strong. It still had the original clutch and exhaust! Only ever needed routine parts- brake pads/discs (which it ate tho) and suspension bushes/droplinks. Engine was still sweet, tho I think it had lost a little bit of power. It only ever let me down once, with a craked dizzy cap letting moisture in- 5 min fix. The company sold it for £250- what a bargain- I wish I had bought it now for a runaround. Great car- very under rated.
A great advert for Honda- so far my Civ has been faultless- apart from the condensation problem in rear lights. |

It really depends how you drive car, where, and how good the roads are.
It's huge difference if you drive let's say mostly around 70-ish mph on good open roads, or if you make same mileage in city with tons of stop'n'go situations and lots of potholes, etc... |

Current mileage on Millie is 4375.
She'll be two years old in May. Will I live long enough to see anything wear out? ......on the car that is! "A wedding is similar to a funeral, But you can smell your own flowers!" |

I don't know for "new" Honda (after year 2000) but my Accord was born in 1995, it has 260.000 km, no major troubles ...
Automatic gearbox, many hours running because of traffic jam everyday. But old Accord are said to be undestructible |

My Audi A4 '04 plate and 121,000 on the clock and just about to be retired (well sold anyway) for a Type S and apart from brakes, tyres etc only had one problem with the multitronic gearbox and that was the ECU playing up.
They build em fairly well nowadays. |
